GENERAL INFORMATION

  1. DEFINITION ADOPTED
  1. A mine having both belowground and opencast workings is treated as primarily below ground, if the output from below ground is 50 per cent or more of the total output in 1999. Otherwise it is treated as primarily opencast.
  2. A mine is treated primarily mechanised opencast, if it is primarily opencast and either output or quantity of overburden removed from the mechanised faces using heavy earth moving machinery/with deep hole blasting is 50 per cent or more of the corresponding total output or the removal of overburden from all opencast workings during 1999.
  3. Other mines excluding oil mines are treated as manual opencast mines.
  4. Belowground coal mines operational for at least six months during the contest year and having working depth of 300 metres or more

OR

Satisfying at least two of the following conditions:

    1. working degree III gassy seam;
    2. having longwall face(s) worked for at least six months;
    3. having mechanised development / depillaring workings ;
    4. having depillaring workings with thickness of extraction greater than or equal to 3.6 metres;
    5. having gradient 1 in 3 or steeper will be considered as

belowground coal mines with difficult conditions.
