Barangay Profile: Barangay Atong-Atong, Lantawan, Basilan

Physical Characteristics 

Barangay Atong- Atong is under the municipality of Lantawan Basilan province. It is a coastal area. It is the municipal town of Lantawan municipality. It has a relative distance of 20 km from Isabela town. It has a cemented road of 3 km from the barangay.

Atong- Atong has a total land area of 601.582 hectares. 74 % are cultivated for agricultural land, 25% residential and 1 % are forest or reserved. 

Socio- Demographic Data 

1, 1660 (2003 census) is the total population of the barangay. Of the total population 360 are Tausog, 500 Yakan, 300 Christian and 500 Sama. There are 367 household by purok, and estimated about 200 IDP families.

Access to information 

Smart network can reach the area. Mostly people from outside community will just directly visit the barangay. 

Sanitary Facilities and Ownership 

Every house has a built-in toilet. 

Access to Water Supply 

Barangay has a water system, given by the SZOPAD. It has water tank, source for every household. 

Common Occurring Illnesses 

Cold, flu, Cough, Diarrhea, skin deceases, Tuberculosis, are commonly occurred in the community. 

Health Facilities & heath Workers 

Barangay Atong- Atong has a heath center. It have two midwifes and one nurse who are maintain in the center to look after the patient. 

Economic Development 

Fishing and farming is the main source of income of the family head.

Concrete houses are mostly owned by the residents and Bamboo and Nipa made, type of houses that IDP have. 

Infrastructure Facilities 

School building and classroom for grade one to six, and High School.

There is PNP headquarters, Motor Pool, Multi- purpose hall and Municipal offices, Church and Mosque. 

Organizational Development

There is no existing PO’s in the community.
