EAR CARE (AFTER CROP)

1.  Remove the bonnet after 2 -3 days (being careful to leave ears taped over head).  Clean with hydrogen-peroxide, spray with jock itch spray or topazotne.  Replace with a new bonnet for 3 more days.

2.  Remove sutures in upper ear 7 - 10 days or when healed. Remove sutures in lower ear 10- 14 days or when healed.

3.  Keep ears taped over head for 10 days. If it comes loose, it can be re-attached with tape.

4.  Brace ears up into a standing position for a period of 2 - 3 weeks. Topazone spray or Jock Itch spray may be used on the ear edges.

WATCH PUPPIES CAREFULLY SO THAT THEY DO NOT TEAR OUT THEIR OWN OR THEIR LITTERMATES STITCHES. PUPS MAY HAVE TO BE SEPAIMTED!

Books on Breeding:
(Possibly Out Of Print)

Winge, O.: Inheritance in dogs with special reference to hunting breeds.
Comstock Publ.Co., Ithaca/New York, 1950

Burns, M.: Genetics of the dog.
Commonwealth Agric. Bureau, Farnham Royal Slough-Bucka, 1952

Burns, M./Fraser, M. N.: Genetics of the dog.
Oliver and Boyd, London, 1966

Little, C. C.: The inheritance of coat color in dogs.
Comstock Public. Assoc., Ithaka/N. Y., 1957
(This one is a must - it's a much-quoted classic, so you probably know about it)

Searle, A. G.: Comparative genetics of coat color in mammals.
Acad. Press. Inc., New York and London, 1968

Wiesner, E./Willer, S.: Lexicon der Genetik der Hundekranheiten.
Karger, Basel, 1983
(A German book that I found very enlightening. I found all these other references in it. If you can use some references to periodicals, I can copy some more, there's some about genetic load etc. As more on this subject might be boring to other list members you might want to email me privately:
