Latest News - January 5, 2005

First of all, hope you all had an awesome Christmas & New Year, all the best for 2005 from the Limmer Racing Team.
Apologoes for the lack of updates, below is a review of the meetings I raced at on 19/12/04 (Kihikihi) and 26/12/04 (Rotorua), more to come shortly!

Kihikihi Speedway, December 19, 2004.
I went to Kihikihi Speedway for the South Pacific Challenge. The weather was beautiful and I was ready to give the car another go. I went out in the first race just to get used to the track as it was my first ever time there. In the second race I was faster but towards the end of the race I lost my brakes, I went on to finish the race in last place again.
In the last race the car was handling better as Greg Pickerill (2NZ Sprintcar) had come and given us some tips on set up. The car was much more stable but when I approached an incident I had no brakes and nowhere to go except the infield where a poor rescue person was in line with my darting car. We got into the pits and discovered there was no brake disc what so ever. Thanks to Greg Pickerill for helping with my car and Cass and Amy Pickerill for making my life so much more enjoyable.

Rotorua Speedway, December 26, 2004.
We headed over to Rotorua Raceway for the Boxing Day meeting. This was my first time at this track and I had the starting grid position of 4. At the start of the race I just took it easy to get the feel for the car, whilst getting hit from behind from other competitors. In the second race I started off grid 12 and I was getting faster and getting used to the odd ball shape of the track. I finished that race near the back but it is all track time. In the third race I started from grid number 10 and fell back to last and then I started experimenting with lines and found a fast one and started to haul the cars in again. I had a great first night I believe and I would like to thank Greg Pickerill and Chris Woodward aka Joe Lunchbox for helping with the set up.

December 3, 2004

On Saturday night we were off to Huntly again to have another shot at it. The frame had been straightened out and all set up again ready to go again. I went out in the first race and just rolled around slowly to come to grips with the new handling of the car. It is a lot different compared to the old set up but I guess I will just have to come to grips with it. the second race was a little faster but not much as I was still just getting used to the car. I didn't quite get lapped in that race so that was promising for the feature. I was on the dummy grid ready for the feature when we got told that our race had got cancelled as the rain was on the way and we were way behind schedule due to a few major incidents. I was happy with my night as the car went onto the trailer with nothing wrong with it. I would like to thank Uncle Mike for taking me while Grandad was unavailable and Daryl John and Steve Gray for being great pit crew for the night. Cheers guys.

Early Sunday morning the Limmer Racing Team crew headed out to the workshop to load up the cars after a good night's racing the previous night. The 2 Limmer Racing Team cars of Mike Limmer (27H Production Saloon) and Steve Limmer (33H Minisprint) along with the other L.R.T supported and Piako Hiab Sponsored car of Steve Gray (99h Production Saloon) headed off to the small but very challenging and very respectable track of Rangeview Speedway in the little township of Waharoa just out side of Matamata.

27h Production Saloon - Mike Limmer was looking forward to this day as many repairs and trials had taken place over the previous week. The brakes locked up last weekend, which resulted in the car being trailered. The day started off well with Mike starting off the back in the first race along side Huntly rival Steve Gray. The pair both had good speed. Mike was doing well as this was only his second time in a Production Saloon. Mike managed to pass a number of cars in the first race. In the Second race Mike tried a different style of driving which obviously worked as he won the race from the back of the field of 8 or 9 cars. The crowd were shocked to see local star Champ McDonald beaten by a new guy. Mike was pleased with this race and continued to go well after the lunch break passing a few ...cars in the feature. Mike was happy with this and he hoped to get on the big tracks as soon as possible.

33h Minisprint - I was hoping to get my car sorted and that I did. I was put into a group with the Limited Saloons of 13m Murray Guy and 5k Graham Brockelsby. In the first race I was a bit cautious as I was again just getting used to the set up. In each race I started back from them and then caught up but they were too large to pass. In the 2nd race I went a little faster and caught up to one of the production saloons who came into to our race this time in 3 laps and then I had to slow down. Our races had been cut down to 6 laps as they were behind schedule. In the last race I started 3/4 of a lap behind them and let them go and then I started. The car was going beautifully this race and I had more faith in it and I was driving it hard on the very slick track. In the 6 laps I caught up and was just a few car lengths off 5k. I was happy with this result and I am looking forward to racing at Huntly and Kihikihi this weekend. I would also like like to thank Steve, Daryl, and Mike for helping me out and Mum for making my lunch and coming and supporting me. I would also like to thank Dave Wakefield and the rest of the guys and gals at "The Rangeview Drivers and Supporters Club Inc." for letting me run there on sunday and I hope I get the opportunity many more times in the future as it is such a great track. Over all a great fun weekend and I look forward to next. Thanks.

Steve's review about what happened at the Waikaraka Park Meeting (13/11).

Hello Race Fans, well the night started well by getting there 2 hours early. The weather was looking a bit suspect.
It was the first time for me at this track and I was a little lost at first but soon got helped through. The first race of the night came up and the car was feeling good, until I hit the pit corner. The back just slid out and the car didn't feel right. I did 2 laps and pulled off.

The 2nd race was the teams race, we tightened the car up as much as possible as it was completely loose in the first race. I was put into the Auckland team along with Julian Webster, Ben Cossey and Tony Greer. We all did a 4 abreast salute which I was told afterwards looked awesome! After the salute to the crowd we were into the racing and my foot went down, hitting 10,000 rpm instantly. There was no traction again but I managed to finish the race and get the last place points in a car that felt nothing like my car.

I didn't want to drive in the feature so we just put it on the trailer and went and enjoyed spectating AGAIN. We found a bend in the chassis on Sunday morning which had locked the suspension up, which would explain the handling problems and we are off to Rangeview on Sunday hopefully, to go and test it out before Huntly again on the 27th.

Until next time, Happy Speedwaying.

November 12, 2004

Hello Race Fans, unfortunately Steve didn't get any racing in last weekend due to the car still undergoing repairs after the wall testing at Huntly the weekend prior where Steve hit a wet patch and clouted the wall resulting in a broken axle. However the car is ready to go now after the axle, radius rods and jacob's ladder (which got totally folded) have all been replaced. Steve will be racing at Waikaraka Park at the Minisprint Teams Meeting tomorrow night (Nov 13th), best of luck to ya Steve!

November 1, 2004

As planned, Steve and the team had the 33H Minisprint all ready for the Fireworks meeting at Huntly, with good fields in all classes and an awesome fireworks display it was set to be one helluva good night!

The car had good speed and Steve & the team had loosened up the car setup and have so far fixed the brake problem. However it wasn't meant to be for the Limmer Racing Team on Saturday night, as in Heat 1 Steve introduced himself to the wall and suffered a broken axle in the process. Steve's spare axle was in Auckland, so that put Steve out for the rest of the night. As Steve says, "I hit the wet stuff and there was nothing I could do!" - nevermind mate it's all good, that's racing! The car is currently in the workshop and should be ready for Rotorua on Friday for their Fireworks meeting.

A bit of goss from the team is that Mike Limmer (Steve's uncle) has just purchased the 27R Production Saloon formerly raced by Dayne Daniels. Best of luck for your racing Mike!

Sixteen Minisprints (including Steve), fronted in Huntly on Saturday night, with the other cars in attendance being 23a, 12k, 74k, 14h, 44h, 21h, 81h, 31a, 27a, 76k, 46h, 1nz, 52a, 71k, 72h. Race wins were shared between 46H Chip Humble and 71K Mark Edwards who won Heat 2 and also took out the feature. Heat 1 also saw the rollover of 23A Ben Cossey in pit bend. Hope you & the car are sweet!

Photos of Steve's car at this particular meeting can be found on Steve's Photo page (photos by Yaz & Macgor).

October 26, 2004

A couple of weeks late, due to inclement weather, Huntly finally got their first meeting in on Friday October 22, 2004. The meeting from Steve's perspective?
"In the first race I had a slight problem - no tear offs!, and then again I was hindered by a brake problem but I will be back next weekend to give it another shot."
Thirteen Minisprints were in attendance at the meeting, congratulations to 71K & 31A who won the races, fellow cars in attendance included 23A, 81H, 12K, 72H, 14H, 44H, 46H, 52A, 71K, 1NZ, 31A & 27A.
Photos of Steve's car at this meeting can be found on the Photos page.

Huntly's opener is just 4 days away and the excitement is building! In this latest update you will find new photos on the Photo & Workshop pages, an update added to the "Mates Pics", plus some pictures added to the "LRT at play" page.
Steve went to Huntly's practice on Saturday, and tells us about his progress... "I went well and was on the pace by the end of the night", "my car overheated every race and my brakes were jamming on causing them to get extremely hot" and "I'm looking forward to opening next weekend and should have the car sorted out by then". Good on ya Steve, and best of luck for the Opener!

July 15, 2004

Welcome to the first newsletter for the Limmer Racing Team website! This site is still new and under construction but will be all go once the new season is upon us. Not too long to go now, it should be a cracker!

As the off season is fairly quiet, drivers around the country are busy in their sheds rebuilding (in some cases "creating!") their cars for the up coming season. Steve tells us of the goings on in his workshop, "The car is currently stripped down and under going a light rebuild while driver and team members seek sponsorship". For photos of the goings-on in Steve's workshop, check out the Workshop page.

Check back soon for more updates!

Regards,
Yaz on behalf of Steve Limmer and LRT.

PS: Steve is currently looking for sponsorship for his Minisprint, so if you are interested, drop Steve a line here!
