Skirmish Wargaming in 54mm

Right - Rounding a corner and running into a Tiger is somewhat disconcerting, to say the least.

I began gaming 54mm scale, approximately a year and a half ago.  54mm is approximately 1/33.33 scale, I use 1/35 scale for the most part, but supplement with 1/32 scale.  I've found that in this scale, if you want it, you can usually find it.  There are many model kits in 1/35 scale; Figures, Armor, Vehicles, Artillery, and I've even seen planes in this scale.  I've been working on a rule set to use with my scale, which I've decided to unveil to the gaming public.  The rules are still in the infant stages, I haven't had time to completely revise these, so they are a VERY beta version still.  Skirmish Rules V 1.1

Why 54mm Scale?

Besides the reason I mentioned above (ease of locating models), there are a few key reasons I decided to game in this scale:

- No one else I've ever known games this scale, it offered a unique avenue to a sometimes bland hobby.
- Believe it or not, it's a fairly cheap scale to collect.  A box of 1/35 scale infantry (usually 8 figures) runs around $7-10.  Vehicles run around $10-15 for the most part, some are a bit more pricey.  Using Ebay and Yahoo auctions however, I've managed to grab new stuff for dirt cheap.  (Like $3.00 for an Opel Blitz)
- It looks so cool!!!  You wouldn't believe the feeling of awe you get when you see a platoon of Panthers rumbling across a table.  If the scenery is done nicely, it can look almost real from a distance.
- I can be outside and game at the same time!  I'm one of those odd people that like being outside.  This is the only scale which can be used outside that I know of (finding Micro Armor in 3 inch grass proves a little hard).
