To Jamie

You strike me as the lady Ligeia,
A beautiful phantom in the night,
And so I crave every part of you,
Yet you cause such fright,
With this unencompassed awe-filled sight.

What source this flutt'ring in my heart?
I think it fear of things I do not know,
But something feels different in this fear.
'Tis just the falling snow?
Or is there more as this chill breeze blows?

You're in my arms, and though the air is cold,
I discover other reasons in your smile,
And such a calmness in your body.
Could this be a trial?
This doubt within me is a thing so vile.

Moonlight fades and brings the dawn;
Answers come, but with a terrible price,
For answers are questions in themselves.
Should I toss the dice?
What warmth will melt this ice?

You are here, yet still so distant,
And the fear has changed within me;
No longer do I worry about your closeness,
But the growing sea.
What part of me has caused you to flee?

I know I cannot promise you forever;
All I promise is my love today,
And each day that follows this one.
Though my sky is gray,
Please just promise that you'll stay.
