Stand

Stand behind me
And I shall lead you where I go.
But mind you, I know not where that is;
I cannot begin to divine what the future holds,
So it is your risk.
And know that though my back is turned,
My eyes are open;
You gain no vantage by watching me.

Stand before me
With your back exposed
And I will follow so long as you lead,
So long as your steps are true and not trespassing.
But if you do not keep watch,
I may not be there when you turn around,
Or you may wake to find a dagger in your side.
I promise nothing to a leader.

Stand opposing me
And I swear youll not live to see the dawn.
I would spend all I have to see you perish
And spare no mercy on your dying soul.
Your life is nothing,
A wasted breath upon this world.
Not a tear will be shed at your passing,
And I will rejoice in your pain.

Stand beside me
And you are a treasure indeed.
Your sacrifice will not go unnoticed,
For it is surely a sacrifice to be my friend.
But watch your step!
Theres just one step back and one step forward.
And may your God save you should you turn...
You will be nothing in my mind.

Where do you stand?
