The Kitten Purrs
I wake in the morning to the gentlest of sounds
As our little kitten purrs;
Her body beside me stirs.
She has slept upon your pillow every lonely night
Since you left my heart,
And tore our world apart.
I remember the time I brought her home for you,
And the smile on your face,
While anger left no trace.
Yet you took that hated walk and neer came back.
Our kitten cried all night,
Wanting you in her sight.
Did you know your hairbrush sits upon the sink?
That thing I couldnt move,
That last small part of you.
I always loved to entangle my fingers in your hair,
But all Ive left is her fur,
And I pet her while she purrs.
I wish you could hear them, our little kittens purrs.
This loss within her eyes,
Its such pain to realize.
But how sharp that pain as to the hole in my heart?
One must think it nothing,
Yet I die to see her suff'ring.
You know I would have given everything for you.
Why then did you leave?
Was I really so nave?
There must have been something I was missing.
'Tis a thing I dwell upon,
Yet long you are gone.
My yearning for you has taken a heavy toll on us,
Our little kitten and I;
The hours passed us by.
I sit here wondering how long it has really been,
But time has claimed its prize.
O God, our little kitten died!
