And the fire starts burning
Incinerating the past
I cannot control this yearning
Fire of love will last
There my friends construct my pyre
The last of me on earth
But they're running from the fire
It's you I stand beside
So close to you, our hearts collide
And the fire's still burning
Incinerating the past
I know I'll never see the morning
Fire of love will last
So let's burn their books, burn their lies
Burn the past that we despise
Burn their bridges, burn their beds
Burn them all until they're dead
It's just us, the future ours to write
The pages cleansed for our history
Our love that will take flight
So let's write our desires
Until we share that solar pyre
And the fire's ever-burning
Incinerating the past
How long I've had this yearning!
Fire of love will last
Our burning love will last
Forever...
Our fiery love will last
I wrote this for Laura for Christmas. It's actually more of a song than a poem, due to the repeating chorus, but oh well. It's obviously vampiric, and I think the verse about burning is my rebellion towards everything that has happened in my past and my yearning to remove it from my life to make way for the life I will share with Laura. The part where my friends are "running from the fire" is saying that most of my "friends" never seem to be around when they are needed. It is not saying that they have betrayed me, but it leaves that possibility open.
