My Mini Mk3
In late 2001 I bought HPB 234K - a 1971 Mini 850 saloon in completely original condition. It had no records apart from its latest MOT, but the 25,600 miles on the clock seemed accurate given the almost rust-free body and good interior.

In early 2002 I got Minispeed of Byfleet to fit the following -
1293cc engine with HIF44 carb, Kent 286 cam and Stage 3 head; Maniflow LCB exhaust;
A remote gearchange in place of the "magic wand" one;
Cooper S front discs; Minilite 5 x 10 alloys and Yokohama A008s; Astrali steering wheel, chrome mirrors, over-riders and silver/black numberplates;
One new front wing.

I've so far kept the original beige exterior (no-one has yet been able to identify the exact shade, although it may be Bedouin) and brown vinyl trim - all very 70's! I've also kept the "Mini 850" rear badge, which confuses people when I overtake them!

I took part in a charity rolling road day at Minispeed which was featured in the Sept 2006 edition of Mini Magazine - I was very proud of the 82bhp output! I did the 2002 London to Brighton run, Brooklands Mini Days in 2002-6, Mini in the Park 2003, and Mini 45 - all good for getting ideas and finding parts.
