| From this site you can learn English mainly by solving quizzes and crossword puzzles. There are 6 different levels plus level 'unsorted'; even students who can speak english well enough still can find some quizzes from level 6 quite difficult.
Even though there are quizzes related to 'nouns,' which are so ambiguous that you cannot tell what kind of 'nouns' there are going to appear, many puzzles are specified into specific categories, such as "Valentines' day" "Animal sounds" and so on. Moreover, interesting in this website is that it has a content called "Bilingual Vocabulary Quizzes," which you can solve quizzes by reading questions in your own native language. By solving quizzes and crossword puzzles you can learn many vocabularies. Personllay I like this site since you can learn English by actively participating in using the English unlike other websites where you just have to passively absorb English. However, one shortcoming of this site is that there is no English dictionary! |

Even though I like the former site very much since it has many quizzes and puzzles, I rather find this site more useful to me. You can learn English by reading a news article and the website gives you some help by explaining the related phrase in the news stories.
Moreover, it contains many games, such as crossword puzzles, star wars, hangman, memory game and so on. Also there are activities that you can test yourself how much you know of phrasal verbs such as putting the words in the correct order in a sentence, what you would say in some specific situations, choosing the right very and so forth. Another thing I liked was that there are songs you can listen to and also learn English! In my case, English pop songs helped me a lot when learning English. Thus I find this website very helpful to me. Plus, there is a page to teach us about prepositions which is a tough part to me when using English. This site contains database where you can find English dictionaries that not only has vocabularies but also phrasal verbs. |

This website teaches you how to write well in English. For me, this site was not that useful. All you need to do is to read and passively learn English. This type of teaching method does not work for me. It was just like a dictionary giving you a definition without how to use those words in actual lives.
There were some pages that made you to solve several quizzes in order to write better, however the system did not work well. When I solved those quizzes and clicked a button to grade my answers, even though I got them all right, the web page was telling me that I have made no correct answers! That kind of 'improperly-working-system' made me irritated and did not want to continue to learn English on that site. Personally, I think, to run the website properly and good enough, the system should work quite well. However, this site did not have a good system. Moreover, the content itself did not contain abundant information and the context was not attractive enough to attract English-learners' attraction. |

Although this site also contains many explanations on how to write well in English, it has more interactive activities, such as 'Freewriting area' which has a time limit. This "Freewriting area" makes your brain to think and warns you not to stop writing and to write faster. By writing without thinking carefully, you will be able to find some neat, wonderful ideas after you are done with freewriting. Also the explanations on how to write contains visual aids which attract the English-learners.
The page also is very useful even for English speakers since it has information on how to write memos, business letters, and bibliography of a research paper. The website teaches you how to use correct proofreading symbols, how to write a good thesis statement, argumentative essay, etc by showing you a sample essay with commentaries. I rather find this site more useful and helpful than the former one, since it has a whole lot of information on writing skills, an attractive html context and easy to navigate. One demerit of an abundant-information-site would be it takes a lot time to get through the whole website; but it is worth it. |
