| Conformation. In short a beauty pagent for dogs. This is where you can measure the quality of your dog against other dogs of your breed. It gives you a chance to see what everyone else is producing. And to show off what you have produced yourself. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| With these shows, you compete against other dogs of a similar age and same breed. If you win, you go on to compete with other dogs of evry age, who also won, who are still the same breed. Then the winner goes on to compete with all the winners from the differest groups, the best of each breed of herding dogs if your a mini aussie. When the groups have their winners then you put them all together and you compete for best dog in the show. That's the icing on the cake. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| In conformation you are judged against your breed standard. How well do we fit into the written description of a Miniature Australian shepherd. Once you go against other breeds you are virtually judging apples against oranges. Is dog A a better Aussie than dog B is a Shepherd? Then you have to rate each dog against his own standard and see who fits their standard best. |

| conformation shows are not a test of preference. They are also not just a test of beauty. Each dog has to look a certain way, have his bones and muscles put together a certain way, have his ears set a certain way, have his tail or lack their of set a certain way. Each dog should move freely and comfortable, and almost glide around the ring. All of these things has to be tested on each dog in a short amount of time. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| As a breeder, if you do not go to these shows, you have no way of knowing where your breeding program is headed. Neither do you know where the breed as a whole is headed. Conformation shows are a test of sorts to see where you fit in to the whole group of breeders. When searching for a puppy, it's nice to know that there are some titles in your puppies background. This means the dog with titles was of good quality and has a good chance of producing puppies with those same good qualities. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Conformation shows also give you a ton of knowledge. Where else can you meet several people who are all into the same type of dog you are. These people have probaley experienced very similar situations to what you have. Whether it is behaviour or health. From mis marked puppies, to dogs with epilepsy. If it has happened, fellow breeder will have heard about it, and may have experienced it. They can give you first hand knowledge from experience. So instead of walking along blindly, ask a friend for advise, and be a friend and share advise. It's for the betterment of the breed. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
