Hi i liked your site, a nice mixture. however I raced the mini cooper S's for years. The 970S was not a restroked 1071. The 1071 was based on the 997 Cooper and both were linked to the old Formula Junior BMC A series, engines. they were both very fragile and did not like high revs. The 1275 and 970 S's were a totally different kettle of fish. Even the 1275GT engine is not the same. The 970 was built purely and simply on a limited production run in just enough numbers to meet the homolagation rules to let the factory run teams in the Saloon Car Championships in both the 1000 and 1300 classes.The 970 was bored plus 40thou to make 999cc and the 1275 plus 20thou to make 1293. The 999 was one I used and it would consistently run at just under 12,000 rpm. A beautiful motor. Regards Ken Appleby
