Featured Dilemma:
How Do I Dress to Impress and LAND a JOB?
Dear  Fashionably Befuddled,

Whoever told you that the suit and tie was
mein gauche? I'm sorry, but the whole khakis and polo shirts in the office at these over-night dot-coms were just utterly ridiculous to me, especially when it came to interviewing! Fine for those of you who look like they walked out of a Tommy Hilfiger ad, but the rest of America, the rest of sedentary America has to agree with me here!

The more professional you appear, the more serious people will take you. As a recruiter for an IT placement agency in Manhattan, I met a few applicants that I made sure to send back home for a quick change of clothes. Not that I didn't like their grungey fashion, but to be on the safe side, I didn't want to offend the different managers they were going to meet at their high-profile interviews.

In other words, you can dress in jeans and sneakers in that loft office for an IT company in Silicon Alley, but wait until they hire you.

Until next time! Happy Job Hunting!

Dear Miss Neotheodora,

With the internet start-ups and dot coms fading into a distant American memory of the 90s, does that mean the casual dress code does too? How do applicants dress for interviews now? Is it back to formal or can I still walk into an interview in khakis?

SIncerely,
Fashionably Befuddled
