Welcome to Mythic Europe.

Mythic Europe, the setting of Ars Magica, is historical Europe in the 1200's, if magic had actually worked. This is a gross oversimplification, of course, but I don't have the time or eloquence right now to do it justice. For now, I simply present my characters. Later, I'll introduce our cast of NPC's and describe the covenenant locations.

Ars Magica Characters.

This system is actually oriented towards multiple characters per player games. Essentially, you make one Magus/Maga (it's Latin, so gender changes the name) per player, one or more Companions, and one or more Grogs. The Magus/Maga does magic boys and girls, that's what's so special about them that they're one per person for troupe play. Anyhoo, I broke all the rules and now have a bunch of Magi plus a collection of Companions and grogs, but it's okay 'cause only two of us are playing and we have to populate a Covenent between us.

Chantal de Navarre A young Maga of House Tremere, who favors Corpus and Herbam magics and has a chronically bitter, acerbic disposition, a missing hand, and a grudge against her Parens. She was tapped due to her high intelligence and quick mind, but her Parens overlooked a chronically stubborn disposition. She resented his highhandedness, he was angered by her defiance and insubordination, and the two of them got past her Gauntletting only because he was too proud to have a 'failed' apprentice. She's a rather short, wiry person with dark skin and hair, now also with a bizzare tracery of thin scars radiating from mid-chest. A Perdo Corpus spell blew up in her face during apprentiship, and she lost her left hand, irreversibly, along with taking a great deal of other damage. Where the scars vanish into her hair, she has streaks of white. Chantal favours plain, dark, bulky robes and almost invariably travels on foot. Most of the locals think she's some sort of crazy pilgrim or itinerant hermitess.

Marion of Jerbiton Slightly older Maga of (surprise!) House Jerbiton, who is in the Order because her other alternative was a convent, and this looked better. She was married off to a man 30 years her senior when she was 13, and was widowed, childless, at the age of 16. Because of her Gift and her quick mind and noble birth, Jerbiton had tried to get ahold of her before her marrage, and failed, not wishing to anger her father by forcing the issue. After her husband's death, her future Parens sought her out again and found her far more receptive.

Marion's devout streak has caused some occasional trouble for her new fellows, but her ability to manage an estate has made up for it in most of their eyes. Now in her early thirties, Marion is still quite pretty, sweet-faced and fair-skinned, with light hair and blue eyes. She recently found her familiar, a large white dove from a nearby faery wood.

Sidona A faery-blooded member of House Guernicus! Her Parens wasn't looking for a faery mage, but he wanted an apprentice, and he found a bright, exceptionally Gifted one, despite the quirks of her appearance. Sidona is a very good Maga, but quite poor at interacting with anyone outside the Order. Her skin is marble-white, her hair is white as well, and her eyes are very dark, almost black, appearing violet in some lights. Her features are very fine, elfin even, and her ears are pointed. Between this and her small stature, she's been mistaken for one of the Fair Folk more than once, and takes some pains to hide herself when traveling. After capturing a small goblin in a cave, she has become more interested in faery and it's magics, and has taken up with a Merinita, Henri, for teaching.

Aithne of Eire A red-haired Flambeau from the godforsaken wilds of Ireland, with a yet-unrealized problem. Her Parens pawned her off on another Flambeau in France, hoping to rid himself of the problem she brought with her: lycanthropy. The huge black wolf 'stalking' her has yet to kill anyone, but her companions are getting increasingly jumpy about it's periodic appearances. She herself is quite young, rather lanky, and most unladylike in manner and bearing.
