MONUMENT

A monument design was selected by the Committee in November of 1999. The monument will include the central figure of a bronze miner that will be approximately 10' high. Directly behind this miner will be a 15 foot black granite headframe on which we will engrave the names of the mines and members of the Porcupine Miners Memorial Committee (PMMC). Off to one side will be a bronze mother and two children depicting the family that supported and sometimes survived the miner.

Three large granite tables will carry the names of some 600 miners who lost their lives in the persuit of an honest living between 1911 and the present day. It is intended to give respect and recognize the efforts of those who have and currently continue to work in all phases of the mining industry.

Placed along the pathway from the Chamber of Commerce/Tourism building to the Monument site will be Claim Posts adorned with Claim Tags . Each Claim Tag will carry the name of a person associated with mining in the Porcupine Camp. These tags can be purchased from the PMMC to recognize and appreciate friends and family , companies or groups both living and deceased.

A Picnic Area and Garden have been established by the Schumacher Lions Club and this appropriate area will soon be ready for our monument to take up its rightful place.
