OBJECTIVES
- To erect a monument that will provide a point of physical recognition of the
contributions made by area miners and their families
to the Porcupine camp and surrounding area.
- To host an annual program presenting the history of mining
in the area; promoting the skills and accomplishments
of the mining industry; highlighting the advances in
technology, and safety; and the progress in prevention
of both mental and physical sickness and disabilities
that were at one time common to mining. This program
will be expanded and be available to area schools.
- To assist students to enter the field of mining at
a post secondary level by providing support through
scholarships.
- To work in co-operation with the local museum to
provide a permanent evolving display dedicated to
the mining industry.
- To provide support to the mining industry, families,
professional staff and the community in times of mining
disasters, recognizing that the services required will
encompass skills and talents of a diverse nature.
- To provide a public area available to the community,
where citizens and guests can enjoy a unique location
for picnics and family outings.
- To engage in projects with area clubs, groups and
organizations, which will further the goals of the committee.
- To acquire and maintain adequate resources by ongoing
fund raising and applications for grants and other funding.
