Yesterday I got some sleep for the first time in many days. I have insomnia most nights at home due to certain things that happen, and stay up reading or drawing. That is part of the reason why I can read 10 books a week. Kevin was playing yo la tengo, whom I love. Yo la tengo has the effect of instant relaxation.

I fell asleep for awhile, but then I had to go home so Clara woke me up. Marissa, Kevin, and Clara offered to walk me home from Kevin's house which was very nice considering how late and far it was. We got about half a block before realising how long it would take, so Clara drove instead.

I got to see Thal yesterday (smiles). I wish I got to see him more often. He got his license (yayy!). Kevin was playing echo the dolphin which is probably my favorite game because you get to swim around with no particular purpose. I never play games to win, but only for fun.

Clara drove us to the co-op and we got lots of good vegan food. Clara got her hair coloured deep burgundy yesterday. It is very pretty. We went downtown for awhile and swung by Eliot's. He has the best music in his car. My thoughts are really scattered right now.

Today something happened which I still can not believe. I went to try to sell magazines to some of our neighbours, but no one bought anything. I walked a few blocks more with no luck, and rang the bell of a small house. No one came to the door after awhile, so I turned to leave. I had gotten down the driveway when a man opened the door. I told him I was selling magazines, and asked if he might like to buy any. He had already bought some, but he told me that he might have a couple of dollars he could contribute to my cause.

He came back and put a folded bill into my hand. When I opened it I was stunned-it was a $100 dollar bill! I tried to give it back to him, but he wouldn't take it. I asked him to at least use it to get some magazines, but he refused. I thanked him profusely, and walked away in amazement.

That experience has left me more determined than ever to help others. His generosity was completely motivated by unselfish factors.

Today I worked on an art piece for several hours in the early morning and listened to lots of belle and sebastian, looper, neubauten, lamb, solex and the cure. I saw Almost Famous with Lauren. I was suprised at how well made it was. Michael would love it, it has constant references to the 70's and all of his music of choice. He called yesterday, I was glad to talk to him because I couldn't call anyone this week (no phone priviliges).

Lauren and I went to Mika and had miso soup and vegetarian sushi and tofu salads. We went over to Borders because I wanted her to show me this sushi recipie book, and I was stunned at the size of their vegetarian section. It takes up 3 shelves! Granted they only have 3 books on veganism, but it still is progressive. The sushi book was really good, it had a recipie for sushi shaped like a panda.

I was quite excited to find a magazine with Bjork on the cover and a 6 page article on Dancer in the Dark. It said she literally ate her blouse when she got upset on the set. I listened to neubauten, belle and sebastian, and queen for awhile and we left. Today is Rosh Hashannah (the Jewish new year), and for the first time my parents are respecting my wishes not to partake in religious ceremonies. I am fascinated by the culture of religion, but I have not believed in god or organized religion since I was a child. It is interesting because the jewish new year is referred to as the high holidays. I wonder if that has anything to do with the first four letters of Hashannah?

I found the sweetest looper song today called quiet and small. Looper is so great, most of their songs tell a story. Modem song is about the relationship between a girl in Japan and a boy in the UK. It samples modem static throughout the song. Looper is a sideproject of belle and sebastian members.

Hilary called while my parents were at services so I got to talk to her. She just got a job as the executive marketing director at Ancor, an anti-terrorist technology firm. She gets her own office and phone line, which is nice. They developed a neutron gun which detects weapons completely accurately, and is not subject to human fallibility like x-rays. I fell over laughing because some investors from Malaysia came and one of the guys was asking her why such a young and pretty woman wasn't married! He is a high ranking official and on the staff of the prime minister. She also talked to a member of the FBI whose job title is "special agent." He couldn't say his name, so I told her she should have called him Mulder. She needs my support a lot right now because she is having a hard time with some of her friends and transitioning her life. I'm going to send her pictures of Presley and her which will cheer her up. I have to get off of the computer, that's all for tonight.
