I have had a number of art shows and openings in the past year. In June my work was part of a show called Diversiforms through the art museum. The works I had in the show were:
Virus: The advent of the computer age represented by a two-headed dragon atop computer chips with wires coming out of its body. I bronzed the dragon through a process called bettinaing. Acid is sprayed on a bronzed surface which gives a weathered and greenish tint.
Shattered Dreams-A computer chip and wire base I adorned with fragments of a shattered mirror. I melted glass over the surface of the computer chips, and framed the piece with a rectangle of metal.
Unity-4 female faces of different ethnicities are framed with metal which overlaps to look like the remains of modern society in a post-apocalyptic world. The twisted metal intertwines with spiderweb like strands draped over the faces. I used a laquer thinner finish over the faces to blend them into uniform texture.
Holocaust Rememberance-a woman's face stares directly out from silver wire covering opposite corners of the painting. A surreal bluish-silver tint is the predominate colour scheme, and the woman's large questioning eyes draw the viewer in.
Mardi Gras-True to its name, this piece is inspired by the colour and style of mardi gras. Two sculpted masks project from each side of a circular frame, with wire and glass fragments placed to give a gaudy and festive apperance.
The finger-Not much is known about this mysterious shrine to a finger lost. The finger is rumoured to sit atop a black base adorned with nails to keep any possible heretic from touching this divine severed soul.
