High Voltage.
I like sparks and arcs. Tesla's
 |
My first tesla, Smarties tube. Powered by my
dual ignition coil. Later an oil burner. If there is space,
I'll post a video, it looks a lot better.
Here is a bigger 60W bulb with magnet wire
wrap around it connected to ground. |
 |
| My plasma globe. All transparent bulbs worked,
but the car lamp made the coil resonate. Click the image for
larger version. |
|
|
Of course it was harmless. But still powerful.

| A sudden interest in glass ... Xenon tube after
being fed 15kV 23mA for a bunch of seconds. |
|
 |
Now this was neat. I started burning a hole
in the glass and I got a giant bright orange arc burning the
up the filament. Click on the pic!
It also reminds me of my Obit switch and filter neon. |
|
 |
Here is my "lathe" coiling the coil.

A close up of the windings. Yes I do like sweets.
Well it was Christmas ...
The other is the finished coil with primary. unfortunately
I have not yet managed to get it working. My Obit decided
to arc internally in its first 5 sec. with a total run time
of about 2 min. Click on the pic. |
  |
Enough tesla's ... for now. I have built a flyback PSU out of
an old PC PSU. Works great. Plans at Open
TV.
 |
Here is the Flyback unit. Click on the pic.
Here are some arcs. |
  |
| This is my second smallest NST. A nice purple
arc. It makes light filament supports glow a bright blue. Click
on the image for a larger version (Its on a 10 pack cd-rw box). |
 |
 |
Here is my Obit. Dead Obit. Burnt out in 2 min.
total (max run time was 30 sec with cooling). Brand new, still
got to pay some 74€, but i'm going to talk to them. Note
to self, never go for the most expensive, heaviest, obit. Click
on the pic for details (20mA 15kV center taped). |
| This is my most successful cap to date. Its not to heavy,
and it works rather well. The only cap that stores a 3cm spark
after 30 sec. Roll the mouse over the image to see its guts. |
 |
 |
Nice oval shape.
The sparks here are short caused by being a summer evening.
Discharge in Xenon tube. |
