Reading from a new pocket book of Kerouac

by moonlight brighter than your voice a thousand miles away
clouds like solid ground
stars like pinholes in the lampshade
peepers singing a dirge to daylight long dust
your beauty etched in the dewgrass
(what color is that in the moonlight?)
and treetops are shallows
bark deeper
and light darker
