Some years ago I was lent a Book of The Horse printed in 1780. One of the most interesting prints in it were "Two Officers Chargers" the description went on to say that the hind feet toed out depicted in these horses was "a sign of the Highest Cast and greatly sought after". The Lideograph of these horses was so lifelike that in art school this style was called realism. Ie as close to lifelike as a Photo.
How times have changed though. Today to win in the halter ring the straight all the way to the hoof horse is considered superior to the once "Highest Cast" conformation.
