Notice: Mana is from the Game "Girlfriend of Steel" aka Iron Maiden. I don't have the game and don't know the character enough to know what goes on in their minds. But here is a summary of the game.

The game we play: Mana is a pilot for a robot, similar to Evangelion, built by another military branch. Mana sent to spy on the three Eva pilots to get information on the EVA piloting system. She is immediately fascinated by Shinji and calls him "cute" (kawaii) when she is seated next to him at school. On the first day, Mana sticks to Shinji as if they were a couple and she even follows him to NERV. She is found out, and then taken by the military. Another robot tries to free her but it is stopped when a N2 mine is dropped on them. She survives but she has to take on a new identity and live somewhere else. The last time Shinji and Mana are together, she promises to come back one day to visit Shinji and he just replies "matte iru yo" - "I will wait for you".
