The Kouzou in our minds: Fuyutsuki is the sanest person in the series by any standard. He is completely aware of what NERV is working for and for whom. His experience as a teacher has taught him when to be strict and when to be flexible.

When he was teaching in Kyoto he had a bright young Yui Ikari for a student. He also met Gendou Rokobunga because of Yui, Gendou needed bail and Yui suggested that he contact Fuyutsuki. Fuyutsuki thought that Gendou was a jerk and wanted nothing to do with him. However, fate had other plans for him.

After second Impact Fuyutsuki, lead an investigative to find out what really happened at the South Pole. At the South Pole, he and Gendou met again. After he learned the truth about what caused second impact, he wanted to expose what he found out about Adam and SEELE to the world, but he was convinced by Gendou to join the UN organization of NERV.

Kouzou becomes Gendou's second and vice-commander of NERV. Kouzou is very quiet and supports Gendou on most things, trying at all times to give good advise to Gendou.
