When it first appeared off of Japan's coast, it finished off Units Eva-02 and Eva-01 easily. Only after a synchronized attack by the two Evas was it destroyed.
Profile: The Seventh Angel's defense and attack demonstrated how the Angels threat was increasing. It had the ability to split itself into two separate Angels, making it a very difficult challenge for NERV.
Fate: Israfel was defeated when Unit-01 and Unit-02 slit it in two and forcibly re-combined it with powerful kicks. It exploded in flames that looked like a cross.
