Arael used beams of light to get into the minds of the pilots. It attacked Asuka forcing her to relive her most painful memories. Asuka couldn't stop the emotions, and she cracked.
The Angel could only attack one mind at a time, Eva-00 and its pilot showed up and after a failed attempt to shot it down Rei was given orders to retrieve the Lance of Longinus from Terminal Dogma, with which she launched at the Angel.
Profile: The fifteenth Angel to appear was pure light. It was in high Earth's orbit and only attacked when Asuka and Unit-02 looked like they were going to attack it.
Fate: The Lance of Longinus was used to cut through Arael's AT Field and destroyed the Angel. The Lance landed in the moon's orbit and remained there.
