Executive Meeting Minutes

Ferguson Hall, Room 105

Executive Board Members Present: Lynn Marano, Carrie Backman, Tark Katzenmeyer, Steve Schmitz

1. Meeting commenced 7:06 under leadership of Lynn Marano

2. Discussion about the next general meeting featuring a clinic by Clark Sheldon, a teacher in the Wayzata
public schools. This meeting is at 7:00 on February 13th and will be very valuable to future teachers.
His topic will be, "10 things I wish I had known before teaching..." This clinic will also be given on
Friday (3:40) at the MMEA convention.

3. a. Discussed the March 13th proposed clinic on resume/portfolio building. Dr. Steven Wells, assistant
principal of the arts and sciences, of Apple Valley High School was brought up and will be contacted
        about doing the clinic.
    b. The April clinic with Prof. Luckhardt talking about his unique use of student leadership still needs to
         be confirmed.

4. Discussed the direction that the format of general meetings is going. Generally, the consensus is that we
are on the right track. Increased connection with all members, a definite reason to come, traditions and
increased committment of members were all brought up as areas to still improve.

5. Steve and Tark are working on a fundraising idea that would involve music educators going out to an
area middle school to practice teaching lessons. The lessons would be at a greatly reduced ($5) rate for
the interested students. All proceeds would benefit MENC functions. The interested people would car-
pool to the school once a week to work with the students. The program still needs to be approved by
Dr. Kimpton, but will be further discussed.

6. a. The early March social event is sitll in the works. As soon as a place and date is finalized, everyone
        will be e-mailed.
    b. May 4th is finalized for Dr. Haack's end-of-the-year picnic. More information to come.

7. We still would like groups like Brass Quintets and other performing groups to volunteer to perform at
the Feb. 20th rally at the Capitol. E-mail Lynn or any other executive for more information. We will be
making it VERY convenient to write letters to representatives in your home areas to protest the budget
plan, so if you would it would be great. Once it's organized, we will pass out example letterse so it will
be easy (and fun) to contact your local representatives.

8. Meeting adjourned, 8:00 pm.
