This team was initially formed by a Mexican businessman who strangely disappeared. The project was then taken over by a group from Modena, Italy. The car was developed by Lamborghini to be coupled with its established engine program. The design was radical, as the sidepods were much smaller than those of a conventional F1 car, and the chassis had a very "triangular" construction. The team underwent extensive testing in the pre-season, and were expected to finish with some respectable results. In the first few races, the team looked extremely promising, as Nicola Larini finished seventh and one place out of the points in Phoenix, and then in Imola, Eric van de Poele was hanging on to fifth place only to be robbed of points in the closing laps due to a technical problem. He was classified ninth. Unfortunately, this was as good as it ever got for the Lambo team, as they were never quite able to get the most out of the car and struggled to qualify. They ended up being humiliated by the other 1991 rookie team, Jordan.
