The Forti team was formed in 1995. That year, it was fighting
hard for the honor of "best of the worst" with Pacific and Simtek. They
won this hard fought battle, which in itself was impressive, given that
this was their first year, and both of the other teams had raced in 1994.
Simtek did not last past Monaco, and Forti's best finish of 7th was
better than that of Pacific, whose best result was an eighth. Their 7th came at
Adelaide and was achieved by Pedro Diniz in a race of attrition. They
were one retirement away from a points placing, but it was not to be.
In 1996, Pacific were also out of business, and Forti were alone at the
back of the grid. They suffered through eleven races with their 1995
chassis, which had been modified for the 1996 regulations, but this,
coupled with their ancient underpowered Ford V8, made them notoriously
slow. They could not even keep up with the Minardis, Tyrrells, and
Arrows, and they often failed to qualify. After a double DNQ at Silverstone,
the money ran out, and the Forti team folded.
