The Coloni team entered formula one from F3000 in 1987, but only competed in two races, Monza and Jerez (pictured). The following year, they took part in all of the races, and by 1989, they were taking two cars to every race. They rarely managed to qualify, but there were a few lucky weekends in 1988 and 1989 where Coloni saw action on Sunday. They scaled back the team to only one car for 1990, but they had an exciting new engine deal with Subaru. Unfortunately, the Japanese company totally underestimated the competitiveness of Formula One, and produced an engine that was only capable of holding together for a few laps. The Subaru was dumped in favor of a Ford DFV, but Bertrand Gachot still never managed to get the car past Friday's pre-qualifying sessions. The team continued in 1991, but found no success, and left at the end of that year. Currently, Enzo Coloni's team still runs in Formula 3000, but, they have been unable to find success in recent years, even in the lower formula. In 2001, the team finished 11th in the constructors standings, with one point.
