She was in for another class with the ever self-loving Darien Danson. Serena made her way down the hall towards her class with a determined air about her. "Serena!" a voice called after her. Serena turned around and smiled at her friend. "Hey Aurora! What’s up?" Serena asked, smiling, as she waited for her friend to catch up. "Not much." Aurora said as the two headed for their classroom. "Did you hear though?" "Hear what?" Serena asked. "Darien’s having a party this Friday.” Aurora" replied. "You think I care? You know how I feel about Darien." "Yeah Sere, I know. You think he is a self centered, spoiled little rich kid who..." Aurora began. "See!" Serena interrupted. "You know exactly how I feel, so why would even you tell me?" "It’s the hottest news Sere! It’s my job to keep you up to date and informed!" Aurora giggled, as she opened the door to their biology classroom. "I’ll talk to you after class." "Sure." Serena laughed as the two parted. Serena sighed and went to her table. She set her bag at her feet and her textbook on the desk, before perching on the stool. She happily noted that her lab partner wasn’t there. "Maybe he won’t show up." Serena muttered, as the door to the classroom opened to reveal none other than Darien Danson and his fan club. Serena sighed again and cursed Miss. C’s alphabetically arranged seating plan. "Hey Serena." Darien greeted her as he sat down next to her. "Hi." She replied blandly, without looking at him. "Aren’t you glad school’s almost over? The summer awaits!" Darien opened his binder and textbook. "Mm.." Serena replied absently, pulling some papers out of her textbook. She began scanning the sheets and making some notes. "You don’t seem very pleased." Darien commented. "Not everyone lives for parties, Darien." Serena’s > voice was cold. "Some people have to work this summer." Before Darien could reply, Miss. C walked in and began the lesson. "Okay class! As you know, today we will begin our pig dissection. Could one person from each group please come get the supplies?" Serena started to get up, but Darien beat her too it. "I’ll get everything." He said, like he was doing her a huge favor. "Gee thanks." Serena muttered, rolling her eyes. "This is going to be a long class." By the time Darien got back, Serena had cleared off their table. Darien set the dissection tray on the table, with the fetal pig already tied down. He put the tool case next to it. "Give me your hand." Darien said. Serena looked at him in disbelief. Darien reached over and took her hand in his. "Hey!" Serena yelled as she tried to pull it away. "Relax!" Darien told her, holding her hand firmly. "I just want to see what glove size to get you." He released her hand and turned to get two sets of latex gloves. When he got the second time, Serena had prepared everything and put on her reading glasses. Darien silently handed her the gloves. "Thanks." Serena muttered before putting them on. "Wow! Did the high and mighty Serena David just thank me?" Darien exclaimed. Serena rolled her eyes before picking up the scalpel. She swiftly cut across the pigs ventral side, under it’s two front legs. Darien watched her confident and precise movements as she pulled back the skin to reveal the liver. Suddenly, he found that he didn’t feel so good. "Uh.. Darien? Do you want to sit down?" Serena asked, as she looked at him with concern written all over her face. "You don’t look so good." Darien nodded and sank down to the stool behind him. "Fill out the sheets, okay?" Serena handed him the packet of papers she had been reading early. Darien took them and began to write as Serena began to removing organs. "That’s the gall bladder." Serena said as she set the small organ on the paper towel. "The tri-lobed liver and spleen." Serena calmly removed the organs and set them aside. "Uh.. Serena?" Darien asked. "Yeah?" Serena looked up at him. "Don’t you feel nauseous?" "If I did, who would be left to dissect?" Serena asked, before removing the duodenum, jejunum and ileum. "That’s the small intestine." Serena began to cut apart the small intestine and lay it out straight. "What are you doing, Serena?" Darien asked in disgust. Serena sighed in exasperation before replying. "I’m doing exactly what the lad sheet told us to do Darien." Serena set the intestine down as her long blond hair fell into her face. "Ugh!" Serena tried to toss her hair back, but to no avail. It kept getting in the way, and she really wasn’t into having pig guts in her hair. "Here." Darien got up and brushed her hair back. Serena stiffened as his fingers brushed her neck. This did not go unnoticed by Darien. 'Do you have something to tie it up with?" He asked. His voice sounded annoyed. "Yeah. In my bag." Serena replied, as Darien reached down to pulled out a white scrunchy. He quickly tied her hair up with it and went back to his seat. "Thanks." Serena said. Darien kept his attention on the paper. Serena continued on the dissection, making precise cuts, while Darien was studying her. ‘She’s so cute.’ Darien thought. ‘Too bad she’s so cold. I wonder it Aurora told her about the party yet. I hope Sere comes...’ "Are you writing everything down?" Serena asked, as she stopped cutting to look at him. Darien blushed slightly before directing his gaze back to the work. "Yeah." Darien said, as he began to write again. He quickly finished the first two sheets, before looking over at Serena again. She was rinsing the pig out with water. "Okay. We’re done the abdomen, and we’ll do the throat area tomorrow. I’ll clean up." Serena said as she set down her probe and scalpel. Darien nodded, and put his pen down. Serena took the dissection tray up to the front of the room and put it in the proper bin. She came back to her desk to find Darien washing the tools and putting them away. She quickly took off her gloves and tossed them out. "I hate those things!" She muttered as she put her books in her bag. Darien laughed. "What’s so amusing?" Serena asked. Her cold blue eyes looked into his. "Nothing." He said, before taking the tool case back to the pile at the front. "Okay, class! Time to clean up!" Miss. C called. The other groups began cleaning while Darien and erena sat at their table, having finished everything. Serena was eagerly awaiting the bell so she could escape Darien. She was about to go talk to Aurora and help her friend clean up when she saw the teacher approaching. "How is it that I always find you two sitting around doing nothing?" Miss.C asked, as she approached the pair. She was smiling at Serena as she spoke. "Well, Miss, Serena is such an efficient worker..." Darien began. "Just lucky, I guess." Serena interrupted him, smiling brightly at the teacher. Miss C laughed. "I knew it was good to leave you two together, even though you complained so much, Serena!" The teacher smiled ather favourite pupil before turning away to supervise clean up. Serena didn’t look at Darien. Much to her surprise, he didn’t say a word. ~~~
