She looked at the kitchen table and saw Darien sitting there, sipping coffee and reading the paper. She screamed. Darien's head shot up and he saw blonde pig tails streaming up the stairs. Shrugging, he went back to his paper and coffee. A few minutes later Serena entered the kitchen again, dressed in her school uniform, hair and teeth gleaming. "Morning Serena." Darien greeted. "Why are you here again?" Serena asked as she went to make her breakfast. Darien grinned and stood up to follow her. "Because your dad tried to kill me when I was serenading you." He replied nonchalantly. "Oh yeah..." Serena nodded. She reached for the bag of bread and stuck two pieces in the toaster. Still standing facing the counter, Serena reached up for the peanut butter and pulled it down. Darien came up behind Serena until the front of his shirt barely brushed the back of her uniform. "What do you mean 'oh yeah'?" He asked, his lips near her ear. Serena jumped, startled by his close proximity. "I mean oh yeah. That's all." Serena shrugged. Memories of the last time she and Darien had been in a kitchen together came flying back to her, and she blushed. "I see..." Darien said softly. Serena clutched the counter top as she teetered slightly. Being this close to Darien was doing things to her insides. Things she wasn't sure she liked. "My dad wouldn't like this very much, if he were to walk in..." She told him. "He left, over an hour ago. I think your mother had something to do with that." Darien told her, not moving. The toaster popped, startling Serena, who jumped in response and somehow ended up closer to Darien. "So tell me Serena. Why did you say no?" He asked softly, wrapping his arms around her waist. "Say no?" She asked, confused. She turned in his arms and looked up at him. "I asked you out, and you said no." He reminded her gently. Slowly Serena's eyes widened. "I did." She replied. "Why?" He asked again. Serena shrugged. "What did you expect me to say?" She asked, before turning around and grabbing the toast from the toaster. "Yes, maybe." Darien replied, watching as Serena spread the peanut butter on her toast. "Why should I?" Serena asked, turning again. She was still holding the bread and butter knife, carefully licking the peanut butter off. "Because." Darien replied. "Because why?" She asked. "Because this." Darien took the knife from her and dropped it in the sink with a loud clatter before he leaned forward for a repeat of their last kitchen scene. When Serena was finally able to pull out of Darien's heated embrace, both were gasping for breath. "So?" She asked. "That's supposed to convince me to date you?" "You have to admit there's something between us." He whispered huskily. "Is there?" Serena asked, once again turning away from Darien. "Yes, and you know it." He replied. Darien placed a hand on Serena's waist and whirled her around to face him. "And what, pray tell, is between us?" Serena asked. "I... I don't know, but I'd certainly like to find out." "I don't know Darien..." Serena shrugged and pulled away. "What's not to know?" He asked, following her to the kitchen table. "If this would work, if its worth trying..." Serena shrugged and sat down. "It is worth trying, Serena." Darien told her fiercly. "Why Darien? Why is it worth trying?" She asked, her eyes blazing. "Because I'm in love with you."
