Serena lay on the patio soaking up the sunlight.  She
was waiting for her husband to come home from work.  She 
had called him and asked him to come home because she 
had something important to tell him.  

Half asleep, Serena heard the patio door slid open.  Darien
sat on the edge of her lounge chair and Serena's eyes
fluttered open.

"Hello." She greeted him, her voice sounding sleepy.

"Did I wake you?" Darien asked, leaning over to kiss her on the lips.

"I wasn't really sleeping." She told him.

"You said you wanted to tell me something?" Darien asked
her.

"Mmm.." Serena sat up and adjusted Darien's tie.  Darien chuckled as
Serena focused on her hands.  She was obviously nervous about something.

"Out with it, love." Darien teased her, taking her hands into his.
Serena bit her lip nervously and avoided looking Darien in the eye.

"Darien...  I..."  Serena began before faltering.  They had been married for 
six months now, but were engaged for two years.  Never before had Darien
seen his young wife so nervous.

"Sere, what's wrong?" Darien asked, now genuinally concerned.

"I'm pregnant." Serena blurted out and expected the worst.  Darien 
remained silent, and Serena was afraid he was mad.

"That's wonderful!" Darien burst out, hugging Serena to him.  "How long
have you known?  Oh Serena, this is amazing!"

"I went to the doctor this morning.  I'm still in my first trimester."
Serena told him, laughing at his entusiastic response.

"Serena, our own family...  I never thought the day would come." Darien told
her.  

"I'm glad your happy Darien." Serena said, hugging him.  "Just remember this
when the baby cries in the middle of the night."

Darien laughed.

"I'll gladly wake up in the middle of the night to comfort our child." Darien
replied, kissing Serena once more.
