E-mail me! ~~~ Darien sat at his mahogany dining table sipping his coffee and going through the morning paper. One of the headlines caught his attention : 14 year old in car accident; family killed. Just the words brought Darien a flash of memories: waking up in the hospital alone; the guilt of surviving; left with no place to go... He didn't want anyone else to have to go through that. Quickly he skimmed through the article. It was a girl from the juuban area; her mother, father and brother had been killed when the car slid from the road. It was that news that caused Darien to make his decision. "Jed!" Darien called as he tossed the paper down. Jed, Darien's personal assistant came into the dining room. Jed was a tall blonde haired man, who was responsible for keeping Darien's house in order. This postition often found him chauffering Darien or ensuring that Darien stuck to his schedule. "Yes?" Jed asked. "I want you to call the best doctors in the world and have them flown here immediately. I don't care what the budget is. Have them arrive at Juuban Hospital. They will be caring for a girl there who was in a car accident." Darien ordered as he stood up and put his jacket back on. Jed raised an eyrbrow, but left the room to do Darien's bidding. An hour later, a team of several of the best doctors walked into the operating room in the large Tokyo hospital and took over for the tiring doctors who were still operating on the girl in critical condition. Darien stood in the hallway watching when he could and sitting with Jed in the waiting room when he felt too queasy from the blood. "Darien? May I ask what's so special about this girl? This was an...expensive venture, to say the least." Jed asked as his friend collapsed into the seat next him. Darien ran a hand through his dark hair before replying. "The girl... That's what happened to me... I have no memories of anything and I was so alone... I don't want anyone else to feel that..." Darien slumped forward in his chair and rest his head in his hands. He felt Jed's hand on his shoulder before Jed stood up. "I'll go get you some coffee." Darien smiled weakly in thanks before Jed left to find some coffee. "Mr. Shields?" A voice asked. Darien leapt out of his seat and looked at the doctor in front of him. "Yes?" Darien's voice sounded overly anxious, even in his own ears. "She's stable, but not out of the woods next. What happens in the next twenty four hours is very important." The doctor explained. "She may have severe brain damage. At this point, we are just thankful she's alive. Its a miracle that she survived." "May I see her?" Darien asked. "She's being taken into the ICU, but you can go see her there." The doctor pointed Darien in the right direction. "Thanks." Darien told the doctor. "You must really love her." The doctor stated as Darien left the waiting room. Darien approached the ICU and looked in through the window. He quickly narrowed it down to which was the girl. The only other people in the ICU were a small child, and old man and a middle aged woman. Slowly, Darien pushed open the door and headed towards the girl. She looked tiny in the white hospital bed, and very vulnerable. There were bandaged covering most of her face and Darien expected to be paying some very expensive plastic surgery bills. There was a IV hooked up to both of her arms and a tube across her face to facilitate her breathing. Darien sank into the chair next to her bed. He studied her as she lay there, bruised and broken. Her skin looked extremely pale, and her blonde hair was matted with blood. "Sir? Sir, I'm sorry but you'll have to leave." A gentle voice said from behind him. Darien turned to see a nurse standing with a clip board in hand. "Who are you?" Darien asked. The nurse laughed. "I'm just your average nurse. Now, you'll have to leave." "All right." Darien nodded and got up. With one last glance at the girl, he left in search of Jed. Darien headed back to the waiting room where Jed was waiting with two cups of coffee. "Can we get a personal nurse in here?" Darien asked sipping the coffee Jed handed to him. "Sure thing Darien, but you need to go home. You've been here since ten this morning. You need to rest." Jed told him. Darien looked at his watch and was surprised to see that it was almost two in the morning. "All right. I'll go home, but I want that nurse here by tomorrow morning!" Darien informed Jed as he led them out of the hospital to the car. Jed drove them home in silence, and Darien climbed the stairs to his suite without a word of thanks to Jed. Not surprised in the least at his boss' actions, Jed locked the front door and headed to his own room. On the way, he stopped in at Darien's study and made a quick phone call to ensure that a nurse would be there when Darien got there the next morning. ~~~
