Heart of a Saint - Two Usagi-chan Usagi@lunap.com http://hop.to/minako_usagi I don't own Sailormoon. Some bad language. E-mail me. "Dammit! How did he get out? And who fired? His lawyers are going to be all over us with that." Chief Monroe was furious. This was the closest they had come to ever catching Darien Shields before, and he couldn't believe they had messed it up so badly. "Chief, we thought he was going to pull a weapon on us, and no one saw the child." "No one saw the child? How did a child get so close in the first place?! And what would a single gun do to fifty odd cops in bullet proof vests?" He was seething. "We still have a chance." The officer who had been in charge was trying to save face, but not succeeding. "Excuse me, Chief?" A tall brunnette stood at the doorway. "I just got off the phone with our lawyers, who just got off the phone with Shields' lawyers. We're in trouble. They said he won't even speak to us. He's going to get complete vengeance though. He's ruthless enough to do it." "Thanks Kino." The police chief sighed. "This is one helluva mess." "I know, Sir." Lita turned and left the office, shutting the door behind herself. She was anxious for the whole day to end. The entire station seemed to have a cloud, settled quite comfortable over them all. Not only had they missed their best, and possibly only, chance at nailing that bastard, they had also killed a child. "Lita!" A voice called. Lita turned her head to see one of the receptionists waving her over. "Hey." Lita smiled half-heartedly. "What's going on?" The young woman asked. "You've heard of Darien Shields, right?" Lita asked. "Who hasn't?" "We were this close to getting him today. Dammit! They fired too soon, because they thought he was going to draw a gun. An innocent was killed, a child." Lita massaged her temples. "His guys moved in and cleared him out. There's almost no way we can get him now. The only way we can get to him now is by going to his house, and we need a warrant for that. His lawyers are too good. We can't get one." "Maybe you can work something out?" "He won't talk to us." Lita brushed her hair out of her face. "Listen, I'll talk to you later, k?" "Sure thing. Bye Lita." *** "Look Darien, I seriously suggest you use this to get some sort of ammunity from them. The cops owe you big now. You can slam them with this." "He was my brother, Andrew, not something I want to use for my own benefit." Darien hissed. "I understand that. I don't know what you want to do Darien! Not talking to them only makes it worse." "You may be my friend, Andrew, but in this case you are my lawyer first. I will not discuss anything with them, and neither will you. No deals. No bargains." Darien stood up and headed towards the door. "Dammit Darien! Give me some thing to work with." Andrew shouted after him. "I'll only talk to one of them, and it had better be someone with the heart of a saint." With that, Darien slammed the door behind himself. *** "Chief? We may have a way." Lita was seated in one of the questioning rooms with two other officers and the police chief. "What is it?" He asked, anxious for any sort of good news. "I just got off the phone with Darien's lawyers personally. He said that Darien will talk, but we have to find someone with the 'heart of a saint', he said. I don't quite get it." Lita shrugged. "Someone he deems good, and pure." Chief Monroe muttered. "Where they hell are we gonna find someone like that in a police station?" "Uhm, guys? I think I know someone." This time it was the most junior officer present speaking. "Spit it out, Ramirez." "There's a receptionist here, at the station. She'd be perfect." "What do you mean?" "She's reminds me of an Angel, she's so good." "What's her name?" Lita asked. "Serena. Serena Fairchild." "Get her in here!" The chief yelled. Mark leapt to his feet and ran to front of the station. "Serena? Can you come with me for a minute?" He asked the petite blonde. "Sure thing, Mark." She smiled at him. Mark lead her to the the back of the station house where the chief was waiting for her. "This is Serena, Chief." "Fine, Ramirez. Now get back to work." Chief Monroe ordered. "Serena, have a seat." Confusion in her eyes, Serena sat down in the only vacant seat, her eyes flashing between Lita, Chief Monroe and the other officer. "What's going on?" She asked. "We need some help, Serena. We need you to do some help us nail Darien Shields." Serena looked at him in complete shock. Her huge blue eyes got even larger and her cute pink lips formed a delicate 'o'. Already Lita could tell the girl would be perfect. She had been in Serena's presence for less than thirty seconds and she could tell the girl was an Angel. Her looks only seemed to benefit her. "Way to be blunt." Lita muttered before gently taking Serena's hand. "Look, I'm sure you know everything about Darien Shields, right?" Serena nodded. "I know he's dangerous." "Exactly. That's why we need to get him off the streets as soon as possible." "And you want *me* to do it?" She asked. "Well not exactly." Lita paused to organize her thoughts. They had to convince Serena to do it. There was no other way. "Listen, why don't I go get you some coffee and we can talk about this, okay?" Lita asked, glancing meaningfully up at the chief. "I don't drink coffee." Serena replied. "Tea?" Serena shook her head. "Can I get you anything?" Lita asked. "Hot chocolate?" Serena asked. "Sure thing." Lita stood up to get some, and Chief Monroe got up as well. He followed Lita out, and shut the door behind him. "Ramirez was right. She's perfect. Kino you have to convince her to do this. We have no other choice." "I know..." Lita looked her chief right in the eye. "Sir, what if anything happens to her? You know how unpredictable Darien can be." "I dunno Kino. We'll just have to pray for her." Monroe sighed. "If she's as much a saint as she needs to be to get to Shields, she'll be fine." Lita sighed, then turned back to the room where the unsuspecting Serena sat waiting. Shoulders slightly slumped, Lita entered and smiled slightly at the pretty blonde. "Someone will be along with your hot chocolate soon." Lita told her. Serena smiled brilliantly. "Thanks." "No problem." Lita sat across from Serena and blew her bangs away from her forhead before speaking. "Earlier today, we had Darien surrounded, and there was absolutely no way he could escape. His much younger brother got through the lines of police and when Darien moved to get his brother, the action was misinterpreted. Someone opened fire, and Jonathan was killed." Serena gasped, sorrow flooding her bright blue eyes. "A child..." Lita marvelled at the horror Serena expressed at the thought of a child dying. "I'll help." Serena looked up, meeting Lita's eyes. "I'll help him and you." ***
