The two sat waiting for Serena's parents in a relatively posh restaurant. Serena was dressed in a cute little pink dress, while Darien wore dress pants and a button down shirt, tie included. "Sorta..." Darien replied. Serena smiled and leaned over to gently kiss his lips. "Don't be. My parents don't bite." She promised. "Don't we?" A voice behind them asked. Serena jumped in her seat and turned to see her mother and father. "Daddy!" Serena leapt from her chair and threw her arms around her father's neck. Darien smiled at the adorable picture Serena made. "You must be Darien." Her mother offered Darien her hand. Darien stood up. "Yes, I'm Darien Shields." "I'm Ken, and this is my wife Constance." "I'm pleased to meet you." Darien smiled. "Well, we might as well sit and eat. I know all about Serena's appetite." Her mother teased. Serena blushed, but giggled. "Mom!" "So, how's school going, Serena?" Constance asked as she glanced over the menu. "Fine, Mom." Serena replied. "Only fine?" Ken asked. Serena shrugged. "I don't like it there. You know that. Everyone's too snobby and caught up in who has how much much money and what family their next boyfriend is from. That doesn't interest me." "And what does, Serena?" Constance asked. Serena thought for a minute before replying. "I want to go to school with real people. People who gossip about guys and parties instead of wallets and boutiques." Serena sighed. "I want to go to a public school!" Ken and Constance exchanged a glance. "What school did you go to Darien?" Ken asked. "I went to the local publie school." Darien replied quietly. "And where do you go to school now?" "Azabu Tech." "Isn't that a very elite school?" Constance asked. Darien nodded. "I got in on scholerships." He told her. "Really?" Constance's eyes widened. "Well, I guess if Serena is willing to work hard..." Ken glanced at his wife who nodded slightly. "Serena, you can switch schools." "Really?!" Serena glanced hopefully from her mother to her father. She clutched Darien's hand tightly. "Sure." Her father smiled. "Your mother and I can move down here and get an apartment or something, I guess..." "That won't be necessary, Sir." Darien cut in. "What do you mean?" Ken asked. "Serena can move in with me. I have a spare bed room, and a fairly large apartment..." Darien held his breath waiting for a response. Serena was smiling happily up at him and her parents were looking at each other again. "Well... I guess that's alright. You seem like a respectable young man..." Constance smiled. "When would you like to move Serena?" "Oh Mom!! Dad!" She exclaimed happily, but it was Darien that she threw her arms around. This did not go unnoticed by her parents. Constance and Ken exchanged a look before Constance excused herself. "I need to go freshen up. Serena, darling, would you please join me?" She asked. Serena nodded and stood up with her mother. "Now, Darien..." Ken looked at the young man. "I... I just want to make sure you aren't toying with my daughter. She's young, inexperienced at life. She has a fragile heart... I don't want it broken." "Sir, I love your daughter dearly. She has brightened up my life in a way I didn't know was possible. She.. She's my everything, and I would die a thousand deaths before I let harm befall her." Darien spoke passionately and sincerly. "Big words Son, but truthful." Ken smiled. "Welcome to the family!" "What'll happen when I propose?" Darien laughed. "Oh... We'll see in a few years, won't we?" Ken asked, smiling. He was glad that his daughter was happy and involved with such a promising young man. He was glad Serena was with someone who didn't care about the amount of money she would one day inherit. Ken knew Serena detested being an heiress, but those born into wealth... Ken sighed. "Well, I'm glad everything's worked out." Constance smiled at sat down. Serena took her seat next to Darien, her face positivly glowing with the prospect of her new life. She giggled. "Its almost like joining a witness protection program or something. I'm going to need new clothes!" Serena smiled brightly at the thought of a shopping spree. "That you will Serena." Ken smiled. They enjoyed small talk with the rest of their brunch. Constance and Ken got to know Darien better, and were pleased with their daughter's choice of a boyfriend. "We'd better get going if we want to be back at the manor before dinner." Constance sighed. "It was so nice seeing you again, darling, and it was wonderful meeting you, Darien." "The pleasure was all mine." Darien smiled. "Don't forget to give us the number as soon as you move, alright?" Ken smiled. "I'll deal with the school." "Thanks Daddy." Serena smiled at her father. "I'm glad you approve of Darien." "And if I didn't, what would you do?" Ken asked. Serena giggled. "Love him anyway." Serena gazed lovingly up at Darien, who smiled. He leaned over and wrapped his strong arm around her, holding her tightly against him. "And I would love you." He told her, sealing his words with a kiss. ~~~ Took me long enough! The end!
