Longfellow School was built in 1902 and used for both an elementary school and a high school. The second story was added in 1907.

To the left is the Morenci Club which excluded Chicanos in my grandparents' time.

When I attended Longfellow school it looked like this. The only way you could tell a second story had been added was the long steep staircase leading to the upstairs.

My fifth grade year was upstairs in the large room that had the fire escape. In the sixth grade, I was in the room next to the principal's office which was downstairs near the front. Seventh grade was back in the large room. This room also had a stage and the bell cord which we were forbidden to touch.
