Dolores Díaz Martinez

Born April 11, 1931

Died September 1, 1991

Dolores, known by the familia as Lola, was the eighth child of Teresa and Wenseslado Díaz. She was the sixth daughter.

I wrote the following poem about Lola after her death and buried it with her ashes in Mama Teresita's grave.

DOLORES

SORROWS

Tía Lola, mi amada tía,

tu vida como un corrido mejicano,

triste y alegre a la misma vez.

Un canto de sufrimiento y amor.

Tantas experencias. Tantas vidas

vividas en una sola vida.

Tu vida, rica y pobre.

Rica en personas que te amarón

que nunca te abandonarón,

tus hermanas y hermanos,

tu hijo y tu hija.

Sufriste mucho toda tu vida,

pero siempre con una sonrisa entre las lagrimas.

Tus últimos años en cama una lección en pacencia.

Tía Lola, tía mía,

en mi memoría, una mujer joven todavia.

Cantándome canciones mejicanas,

tristes y alegres.

Vaya con díos, amada tía.

Vaya en paz.

Aunt Lola, my beloved aunt;

your life like a Mexican ballad,

sad and joyful at the same time.

A song of suffering and love.

So many experiences, so many lives

to fill one life.

Your life, rich, yet poor.

Rich in people who loved you

and never abandoned you;

your sisters, your brothers,

your son, your daughter.

Poor luck with a husband.

You deserved much better.

A good man to

love and care for you.

But God does the best for us.

Perhaps Perfecto was perfect for you.

Perhaps you became such a strong woman because of not having a good husband.

You suffered much all your life,

but always with a smile through the tears.

Your last years in bed, a lesson in patience.

Aunt Lola, my aunt,

in my memory, still a young woman,

singing Mexican songs

joyful and sad.

Go with God, beloved Aunt.

Go in Peace.
