09/03/2003: MiME is no more! .

Hey guys, jis almal

We would like to make an official statement: MiME as you know it, does no longer exist. HOWEVER, the group has not split up. We have (finally!!) joined forces with Sheldon Muller (vocals/rhythm guitar) and SC Pienaar (drums) under a new name - Fuse.

We share the kind of chemistry you normally only dream of when thinking of starting a band. And with God's blessing (and your support!) we hope to make Fuse stand out from the current overload of mediocre music. So what does the merger mean music-wise? Well, that's partially what the new name represents: a fusion of MiME's and Sheldon/SC's music. We'll be playing MiME's songs with Sheldon taking over on vocals and then their songs as well. SC has got some really cool tunes we want to start working on, Pan has got a few riffs too and Jo has just completed about three new songs.
Sound-wise you can expect to get you teeth knocked in - we play as loud as possible! Not metal though, more a hard rock kinda thing. With a few surprises in between of course!

Our plans to visit the UK in June/July have been postponed. The problem is more of a financial one than anything else, but we also have to confirm the visit next week and then there's no more backing out. We have so much on our plate as it is, that we feel it might be better if we go next year. Believe us when we say this took quite some considering and it's been on our minds for a long time. The trip sounds like the perfect opportunity, the kind of thing every band dreams of, but it looks like God has other plans for us for now. We feel much more exited about Fuse than about going to England. We know, it sounds kinda stupid, but sometimes you just have to choose and then also make that choice between potential stardom and potential greatness.

Well, so now what? Fuse will be doing a 5-song demo next week and continue rehearsing for KKNK 2003. We're playing on the 29th and 30th of March. Jo and Panna are still involved with producing and will continue working on their current projects. Obviously, if Fuse go touring, new production jobs will have to wait.

We hope to bring you a new website soon. That's up to our multi-talented friend Panna, who is in way over his head with, among other things, teaching. He says he has some very cool ideas for the site already and will push to have it finished in about a month's time.

We hope to see you soon, wherever it is we're going. Blessings to everyone who believed in MiME - we hope you'll give Fuse the same belief.

Jo and Panna

07/02/2003: plans for 2003
.

Hello guys!

Hope you're all having a splendid 2003 so far. We are quite busy at the moment, basically trying to juggle a large number of projects we're involved in. Here is a quick overview of what we're doing.

We've got three production jobs lined up, all three very different music-wise. As with Willem Welsyn's demo we did last year, these projects differ quite a bit from our own style and sound. Well, nothing like a challenge to get the creative juices flowing.

We're still waiting for some demo's to arrive and this gives us the time to upgrade our studio, the BlooRoom. By the way, I am designing a website for the studio which will hopefully be completed in the next two months. The BlooRoom is finally getting a soundproof booth which will greatly improve our vocal sound and also serve as a place where we can make as much noise as we want to when we want to.

The big plan for 2003 is to visit the UK sometime in June and stay/play for at least a month. We will therefore be playing live as much as humanly possible to start raising funds for the endeavor.

The whole gig-thing has also undergone some changes as of late. Jo used to jam with Sheldon Muller and SC Pienaar, both from Oudtshoorn. As some of you might know, SC is MiME's unofficial member and helps out at gigs and in the studio when he's available. Anyway, Sheldon asked Jo and myself to back him up at a gig he staged in Oudtshoorn last Friday. While Jo and I rehearsed the songs, we started talking about a possible collaboration with Sheldon. So when we got to Oudtshoorn on Friday we started discussing the idea with him. It turned out he had exactly the same idea! The Lord never ceases to amaze me!

So gig-wise, the idea for 2003 is to start playing live with Sheldon and SC as often as possible, with Sheldon opening for MiME. Sheldon leans more towards worship songs, with a few absolute gems in his repertoire. We will back him up while he performs and then MiME takes the stage with SC on drums and Sheldon on acoustic guitar or whatever instrument he feels like torturing! We're very excited about the project and my word people, do we share a chemistry when on stage!! So keep checking the gigs section to see where we will be playing.

We're also working on some new tunes. Jo's got a very cool new riff that has developed into an even cooler song. I also wrote two new songs recently, actually co-wrote the one with my sister. The new songs are typical MiME-stuff, with different styles to be found throughout the songs. But we think you'll like it. We trust. We hope. We beg!

Right, so that's as far as the music goes. For MiME anyway. Other big events is Jo's wedding in April and my involvement with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, which will be staged early in May. I have to say, I am really looking forward to this production, maybe 'cause I have to sing a lot! I'm the Narrator btw, clear evidence that the cast selectors were scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Well, that's it for now. I hope your dreams and hopes work out for this year. If they don't, just fix your eyes on God and you'll be comforted.

Peace guys,
Panna
