John William EDWARDS was born 13 May 1890 at 38 East Holborn, South Shields, Durham.  He died aged 25 on the 25 May 1915 near Ypres and is commemorated at the Bailleul Communal Cemetery there.

He was a private in the Durham Light Infantry and left behind a widow, Mary, and two daughters, Mary and Florence.

He is Robert's great-grandfather.

Before his enlistment in the DLI, he was a Marine Engineer in the Merchant Marine.  This was his bible.
Kenneth Robert CHEEK was born in North Adelaide, South Australia on 26 Jan 1896 and died at Prospect on 28 February 1933.  He enlisted in the 4th Army Service Corps on 31 August 1914 and was on the first convoy to leave Australia and did not return home until after the war.
Bernard Victor PAYNE was born 30 June 1897 in Gawler, South Australia and died in 1981 in Adelaide.  He enlisted in the 48th Battalion on 29 August 1917 and returned to Australia in September 1918 after being wounded at the battle of Monument Wood in France.
Both Ken and Bernard are Miriam's uncles.
