Bobs Tom Waits Video Compilation
(NTSC version)

Hello Raindogs and unaffiliated Waits fans. Welcome to Bobs Compilation. This production is the effort of a Jockey Full of Fans who have worked to assemble the best quality video tapes circulating and put them in roughly chronological order for your enjoyment. It does not claim to be the most complete, nor the best possible... only the best available at the time and among the fans involved. Ill not name the names of the contributors, but they know who they are and can share their identities with you at their discretion. I want to say thank you very much to them for their selfless willingness to share their collections!

Please please please do not sell these videos, and do not trade them with people who are likely to sell them. I am convinced that the only reason the recording industry objects to bootlegging and taping of concerts is that some people benefit monetarily in a way that cuts into the music buying budget of the consumer. Please share this music with those who need to see and hear it, and keep it from profiteers, who wouldnt share freely with you or your friends anyway. I particularly appeal to those who receive master copies... please duplicate this for at least a few others, and dont keep it from those who deserve to see it if they have nothing to trade. Teach them how to seek out fresh material so we can all benefit.

Here are some notes concerning the project:

The video contains blank spaces of various lengths in between clips. These were left in case the tape upgrades ran longer than the first version. I hope they are not too distracting to the viewer, but there were several cases where it was lucky I left the room. A good example of where I didnt have enough room is from the BBC show The Tube, part of which appears on tape 2, and part on tape 4. You cant win em all!

I tried to find accurate dates for sources, but I know I have some incomplete. If you know any updates to the dates here, please post them on the Raindogs list to Bob Updates. Thanks!

The tapes are as close to chronological as I could get them. I had to organize some segments to fit well on the final copies, and a few items turned up late in the process.

Now here are some segment specific notes:

April 18, 1977  Rockpalast, WDR Studio L, Koln, West Germany
This is the short version. A longer version exists, but the quality is too poor to justify the amount of tape required to circulate it. The long version will have to circulate independently of this project.

1991 Fishing With John Lurie (Edited Version)
Some people are going to hate the fact that I took liberties with a few tapes (all edited segments are noted as such) in order to make what I had fit. This is one such segment. I culled the best parts of this 30 minute show into a 6 minute piece. For those who have not seen the complete version, it is pretty slow, as you might imagine. If you are a completist, then you have something to look forward to!

1992? Much More Music, Canadian TV(edited- includes I Dont Wanna Grow Up)

Another edited segment. I think that the only stuff omitted here are promos which appear elsewhere in the compilation. For clarity, the term promo refers to a video clip which has been produced for MTV, VH1, et. al., and typically presents only one song.

May 26, 2000  Polish TV, date is live footage record date (Edited Version)
This is the biggest hatchet job of the set, and again I apologize to the completists. I was very short on tape, and I reasoned that the interview segments I removed were of little value to non-Polish speaking fans, since they voiced over Toms responses in Polish in a way that made his English responses indecipherable. So here is something else to look forward to in your searches.

November 15, 2000 Betty Nansen Theatre Woyzeck Promotional Video

This rare promo is among the last of the items I received. The clip appears complete on European PAL versions, which are recorded at a slightly different tape speed. The North American NTSC copies are all cut as Tape 7 runs out. You are missing only a little interview and some live theatre clips. I am sorry, but this was not avoidable.

So there it is. Enjoy!

Bob
