guess what guess what!?!? due to mass amounts of jaimfans banging
on me for curses support, it finally arrived! that means jaim just
got a whole lot less annoying to use because you can get ims without over-
writing anything you wrote. there's probably a lot of bugs and stuff but
it looks ok to me. if you'll notice, jaim comes with a new file called
crazyjaim.pl. that's the curses client. it's fun, the configure script will
look for the curses module and tell you if you are able to run it. don't
forget to run the new configure.pl as always, becuase this is a new version.
this version is highly reccommended. PLEASE send me patches and stuff PLEASE
PLEASE PLEASE i need feedback.
thanks a billion

ps for you unlucky kids with no curses module, i included one in the tarball

stuff got fixed

yo whats up, thanks for all the patches everyone
here's what's new, the configuration file was moved to
~/.jaimconfig and the pluginconfig was moved to ~/.pluginconfig
(not like anyone actually uses plugins), but now you can configure
where to log to and where the plugins are stored, I guess now,
theoretically, you could install jaim over a whole system much easier with
this setup.

oh, besides the patches, i actually fixed something, too. i figured out that
jaim was counting people going away and whatnot as going on/offline, so i
put a little check for that.

well, thanks everyone for contributing

also, i've said this before, but a GUI is in the works, dont' worry, you
won't EVER need it, it's just an extra, console-based jaim is my highest
priority.

guess what, _EXPERIEMENTAL_ plug in support, some stupid fixes,
config file! yaay.

IF PLUG INS ARE BROKE, I DON'T CARE. IT'S EXPERIMENTAL.
FIX IT YOURSELF IF YOU CARE SO BAD.

ps for some of the examples in the plug in directory you will need
WWW::Babelfish.

config file = jaimconfig

READ THE config file for example on plugins, also you can configure
them at runtime, you don't just have to stick to teh config.
also, "-" is not implemented yet. so there. it says it is, but it lies.

guess what?! aol, being the nice guys they are, decided to block jaim
and all it's derivative clients from signing on, so we copy the tik sign
on procedure now. take that, corporate america.

new for 0.8
-------------------------------------------------
LOTS of new stuff! like chatroom support and fixed a bug re: buddylists and
some other crazy stuff oh yeah, logging (off by default), and also i put an
option so you can have the ims you sent echo to the screen you have to go in
jaim.pl with a text editor it has a section with stuff you can change, sorry
no configfile, maybe next version

important for 0.6!

ships with a new version of AOL::TOC
you MUST upgrade to avoid problems!

anyway, this thing kind of sucks still, but who actually uses TAC for TCL?
TCL stinks. If they can do it in TCL, I can do it in perl. Here's my smelly
attempt.

installation:
ok you will need AOL::TOC 0.32 or greater installed. I'm cool, so I put it
in the tarball for you.
to install that:

$ tar xvfz AOL-TOC-0.32.tar.gz
$ cd AOL-TOC-0.32
$ perl Makefile.PL
$ make
$ make install

now that that's done, you can just do
$ perl jaim.pl

and you are running

commands:
------------
ok im dumb, but at least you can send and recieve IM's. isn't that what it's
all about?!

/m <nick> <message>
send the message to teh nickname

/a <nick>
adds the f00 to your buddy list

/d <nick>
deletes the foo

/q
quits

/r <message>
replies to the last person that sent you an im

. <message>
sends the message to the last person you send an im to using /m

/w
shows current buddies online

/away <message>
puts you away with an away message of away

/back
marks you as back

--------------------------
a note about buddylists

jaim 0.2 now stores your buddylist in a file called buddylist, which is
stored in teh current directory you are in
you can add to this its only a textfile, 1 buddy per line
--------------------------------------------------------

-----------------------

ok people like there's no guarentee this will work, you need IO::Select
working i think it's broke on a few platforms like OpenVMS and you also need
a working SIGALRM. PS - OpenVMS guys! fix select()! its important!
that should do it

peace out and send me an im sometime
i'm on aol as skasalami

ps. if this sucks, it's not my fault, but at least now you don't need TCL to
go on aol and like you dont need x11 anymore either
