XDMexit is a program which displays a small button bar, intended for use on
the XDM login screen often used by X Window System. This software was
created out of the need for an easy and simple way to halt the system from
the XDM screen. Before, after the user logged out of the Window Manager,
they would be presented with the XDm screen, which only allowed them to log
in agian. This also allows the user to properly and safely shutdown the
system with a click of the button, something which will save time for expert
users, since they wont need to go to a virtual console to issue halt, and
for novice users since it will prevent those users from powering off the
computer without first stopping the operating system.

This software is a very early release, and there are many problems that
need to be tackled. We also will one day start work on a totally new
project to write a new program which will run on top of XDM and provide a
login window wwhich will allow the user to select which window manager to
use, and other much greater customisability and options.

To use XDM:

It can be started seperatly, or you can edit your Xsetup_0 or Xsession_0
file, and add somewhere, preferably the bottom, the line like this:

/path/to/file/exit.tcl &

The last & is important, since it assures the script will not halt on
XDMexit and get hungup there.

Unfortunately, the XDMexit lingers on after you enter the windoe manger, and
that may not be desirable for many users. Well need to tackle these problems
in coming work on XDMexit.
