Eight tournaments down and four to go. We are officially two-thirds of the way throught what is hopefully the first of many WSOP Poker Tours.
This month saw the best hand ever shown down, Quad Kings. We also watched Will find his game for the third month in a row.......way to bounce back. Additionally, we saw the overall leader, Jake Smith, increase his lead with yet another strong finish (4th).
We'll pick up the action when it was three handed between Greg Arrendale, Nate (sub for Tim Thewes) and John Cornell. The three battled it out for at least 20 minutes with no one being able to take a commanding lead. Eventually, Nate became the chip leader followed by John and Greg being the shortstack when the following hand came up, with both Greg and John being ALL IN pre-flop. This is how the hand went down....

As I ran this hand through odds calculator at Cardplayer.Com, I was surprised to see that Greg was actually the favorite to win the hand preflop. (There was also a 1.6% chance of a tie) |

Nate hits one of his three outs on the flop to take the lead in the hand and now is a 71.32% favorite to win the hand. Greg also catches a piece of the board and is still has a 22.48% chance to win. John (3.21%), who had the best hand, is drawing dead to the case Jack or a running K 10 to split the pot with Nate with an Ace high straight. |

Greg makes two pair on the river (Kings and Queens) to regain the lead in this hand and has a 76.19% chance to win. Nate (11.90%) is looking for an Ace on the river to outright win the tournament or at least a 10 to split the pot with John. John is in a bad way with only a Jack for the win and a 10 to split the pot (2.38%) |

To add insult to injury, Greg makes a full house on the river (Queens over Kings) while John is out of the tournament finishing third. Nate is still the overall chip leader as Greg was the short stack going into this hand.
Here are the chip stacks at the start of heads up action:
Nate: 21,950+ Greg: 4,050+
Early into heads up action, Greg goes all in again with KQ (unsuited) and is called by Nate with 10 7 (unsuited). The board reads AA9JJ, and Greg doubles up. Nate still has the chip lead, but another double up by Greg would give him the overall lead.
Chip Stacks: Nate: 18,350+ Greg: 7,650+
