Old Trade Analysis

1/21/07

Nets gets: Rasheed Wallace
Drummers get: Devin Harris, Randolph Morris (prospect)

This is one of those “I need, he needs” kinds of trades. Drummers obviously did not need Sheed’s rebounds or threes, and also decided it was time to cut loose the 34-35 year old PF/C for the once highly touted Devin Harris. After being drafted 5th overall in the 2004 NBA draft, Harris has done nothing but show his potential in limited minutes. While he’s shown flashes of what could be, he essentially has become more of a defensive guard who backs up Jason Terry and shows up in the post season.

Rasheed Wallace has been one of fantasy basketball’s best big men for years. With his ability to step back and shoot the trey, or get low and bang for rebounds, Sheed’s been a top 10 big man for many a fantasy GM. Even with C-Webb coming to Detroit, Sheed should still be worthy of a starting gig on any fantasy team. The addition of Sheed gives Nets yet another weapon on his quest for a Sweet Title in 07’.

Drummers was able to turn an older player into a young guard with tremendous upside and a college prospect with a high ceiling in Randolph Morris. This trade makes complete sense to this writer. Nets will be in contention for a crown, and Drummers was looking to build for a shot next season.

My view: Nets win this trade for the now, Drummers wins for the later.

Nets get: Dwayne Wade, Luke Walton

Chiefs get: Lamar Odom, Gerald Wallace

In a mid-season blockbuster, Nets proves yet again that he will not go out quietly. Possibly already being the 2nd favorite team to win the title in Sweet this year, Nets added yet another top 10 stud in Dwayne Wade to the mix. If you thought this guy was dangerous before, wait until you play him now. Let’s break this trade down from both sides:

We had an interesting debate about who had the better PG core here in Sweet about 2 weeks ago. Is there any question now? Nets now start a PG core consisting of Wade, Kidd, Ford, Deron, and Gordon. Oh man, I just got chills! Even if you don’t like Sweet’s most talkative GM, there’s no disputing the fact, this PG core is league’s elite, and one of the best this writer’s seen in ages. Nets also brought aboard Bill’s baby boy, Luke Walton, a 1st half surprise who’s helped the Lakers deal with the loss of Odom. And even though Odom’s now back in the starting lineup, don’t expect Walton to cool off much. Enjoying career highs in all areas, expect Walton to still contribute in all cats, while being one of the NBA’s best 6th men. While he was able to form Sweet’s most devastating PG core, it came at the cost of one of fantasy basketball’s biggest cat-fillers, and one of the NBA’s most exciting young players. Let’s see how Chiefs came out in this deal.

Anyone who’s taken a peek at Chiefs roster may have noticed that depth is the least of his concern. If you take an even closer look, you may also notice that he starts, on any given night, one of the league’s deeper PG cores himself. With Marbury, the recently rejuvenated Earl “The Pearl” Boykins, and arguably the NBA’s 1st half MVP in Arenas aka “Agent 0”, Chiefs was probably one team who could deal Wade without being ridiculed for doing so. By acquiring Lamar Odom and Gerald Wallace, Chiefs now has a team whose bench could beat some in Sweet this season. Odom, who recently came back after suffering a knee injury, is one of the leagues most promising young players. His ability to score, rebound, and dish as always keeps him among the fantasy world’s elite and most coveted players. If you ever were to deal your PG for a SF, this would be the guy you’d do it for. He almost dishes with the top PGs of the league, so Chiefs definitely won’t miss the assists. And then there’s Gerald Wallace aka Mr. Excitement. Wallace has always possessed an amazing overall game, but his injury plagued seasons have left most owners fearful of acquiring him. He recently just came back from a shoulder injury that cost him 7 games, but has been on quite a tear since then. You heard it here first, Gerald Wallace will not only regain his stellar 2005-06 form, but he will also put his much maligned past behind him, and once again amaze.

My view: Nets makes his PG core untouchable, Chiefs throws his name in the hat for title contender.

Lakerfan gets Baron Davis and Corey Maggette

Lakers gets Ricky Davis, Wally Sczerbiak, Dorrell Wright, Prospect Nicolas Batum

Lakerfan is trying to make a run, that much is for certain.  Lakerfan gets Davis who, when healthy, plays like a stud. He also gets another guy in Maggette who, when healthy, is a great scorer. The key for Lakerfan is for both players to stay healthy which is no guarantee, but the price he paid to receive the duo was certainly reflecting their injury histories.

This trade has a chance to revive the recently fading Lakerfan squad.  Lakerfan is trying to prove he is still among the elite. This is a risky play due to health concerns but it could pay big and immediate dividends.  Davis and Maggette should improve his chances now, while not completely sacrificing the future.  He loses a couple up and comers like Batum and Wright but sometimes it’s the price you pay to try to put your team over the top, and it’s appropriate.

Lakers stocks up on some good young talent and trade chips with this deal.  Wright is proving he can play on the NBA level and is already producing a bit.  He should continue to improve and become a solid fantasy player for years to come.  Batum is a nice looking prospect out of France who is perhaps the best foreign player out there right now in the 2008 draft class; there is some big potential there.  Lakers will definitely want to hold onto these two and hope for the best.

Lakers also acquired a couple solid veterans in Wally and Ricky Davis.  Wally is aging and becoming injury prone but still has some value around the league as a scorer and 3 point specialist.  My guess is that he will trying to move him for more young talent, to fit in better with the direction of his team otherwise he will be far too old and broken down to help out when the majority of Lakers’ players come into their prime. He should be able to get a nice prospect or two out of Wally though.  Davis is young enough that Lakers could keep him around if he chooses to do so.  He is a nice player on any team who contributes in many areas.

This is the right type of deal for Lakers.  He deals guys that are not helping him in exchange for multiple prospects and trade chips.  A very rudimentary way to view it is that Lakers loses two assets and gains four.

Conclusion: Good deal on both ends for sure.

Trade Analysis

Lakerfan was at it again this week as he made 3 different trades with 2 different teams. Let’s take a look at how it all breaks down.

Snoop and Lakerfan got together this week to make two separate trades that ultimately broke down as Snoop receiving Iverson and Maggette while Lakerfan received Tyson Chandler, Mo Williams, and Darko Milicic.  Snoop got rid of his excess shot blocking and big men while adding to his team’s biggest weakness, guards.  This deal should really help balance his team out.  Throughout the season, Snoop has absolutely dominated big men categories such as Rebs, Orebs, Blks.  With Iverson and Maggette he should vastly improve his FT%, where he is currently just 1-12.  This is also a case of addition by subtraction since Chandler and Darko are liabilities at the FT line as well.  This trade will also improve points, FTM, and steals.  The significant losses are Rebs, Orebs, and Blks.  Snoop can afford to lose some of these though since he still has a great core of big men.

Another thing to consider for Snoop is value.  I’d say Darko for Maggette is close enough to call a wash.  But to get a superstar, even if he is fairly old, for just an unproven PG and a big man who does nothing but rebound and block shots is a great deal in terms of value.  Iverson should get two solid 50 ranked players, or something close to that.  In this case, Snoop got Iverson at a bargain rate.  I would say Snoops easily got the better end of these two deals, and this should give him a boost and a chance to advance in the playoffs.

The other deal was HUGE. Street received Carlos Boozer, Quentin Richardson, and Josh Childress while Lakerfan received Carmelo Anthony, Jared Jeffries, and Patrick O’Bryant.  This trade is a great step forward for Streethoopz.  As we all know, Street has been in a rebuilding process for a couple of years and has some nice young talent on his team and on his prospect list.  This deal should greatly speed up the rebuilding process.  Anthony is a great young player, but anybody could argue that a healthy Boozer is as valuable, it could go either way.  But Street also received a very promising young player in Josh Childress who is a great asset going forward. And finally, Street also received Quentin Richardson who is a solid, yet injury prone player.  Qrich may not fit into Street’s long term plans but he should be able to get a pick or two out of him to add to his stable of young talent.  Boozer for Melo would have been reasonable but Street got Childress and Qrich as a bonus in this deal.  I would say that this is a steal and could propel Street from a rebuilding doormat to a middle of the pack team loaded with young talent and prospects.

Now let’s take a look at the catalyst for all these deals, Lakerfan.  Over the course of the three deals Lakerfan lost Iverson, Maggette, Boozer, Childress, and Quentin Richardson while gaining Carmelo Anthony, Darko Milicic, Mo Williams, Tyson Chandler, Jared Jeffries, and Patrick O’Bryant.  This could be difficult to sort out but let’s give it a try from a value standpoint.  I am going to try to do this by breaking down each side as a series of smaller, fair trades and see what is left at the end.

I think it is safe to just scratch O’Bryant and Jeffries from the list.  I don’t see either of these players even being able to get a 3rd round pick in a trade and I assume Lakerfan will eventually drop both.  So it comes down to Lakerfan losing Iverson, Maggette, Boozer, Childress, and Quentin Richardson while gaining Carmelo Anthony, Darko Milicic, Mo Williams, Tyson Chandler.

The Maggette for Darko part of the deal is very even and Lakerfan needed some blocks after losing Brand a few weeks ago so that trade was helpful for him there.  Since it is so even, I think it is safe to scratch both of these players them from the equation.  So that leaves Lakerfan losing Iverson, Boozer, Childress, and Quentin Richardson while gaining Carmelo Anthony, Mo Williams, and Tyson Chandler.  Like I mentioned above, Boozer and Melo have similar value, although Melo is probably a bit more valuable….I think Qrich would definitely cover the gap (more than cover the gap actually but lets try to keep it simple) so lets assume Qrich/Boozer for Melo evens out, so we can eliminate them from the equation.  That leaves Iverson and Childress for Mo Williams and Tyson Chandler, and therein lies the problem for Lakerfan.   I would say Iverson alone is worth more than Chandler and Mo Williams, let alone Lakerfan losing Childress to boot.  From a pure value standpoint, Lakerfan loses big.

From a less mathematical value based outlook it seems like Lakerfan panicked.  After defending Boozer to an obnoxious degree, Lakerfan dumped him at half price when Boozer was hurt.  I think this was a mistake.  Perhaps Lakerfan thought that he would not be able to make the playoffs without Boozer for much of the stretch run, but after getting the raw end of these deals I don’t think Lakerfan will have enough firepower to do anything in the playoffs, even if he does make them.  Do not be fooled though, Lakerfan will certainly make a few more deals and could completely alter his team between now and the playoffs.

Nets get: Jason Richardson, 2nd round pick

Polly gets: LaMarcus Aldridge, Daquan Cook, L.R Mbah a Moute

Even if you weren’t a GM in Sweet Keeper, I’m sure you’d understand the logic behind this trade. On one side you have Polly, a GM who’s trying any and everything to build a young core for the future, and on the other side you have Nets, a top 3 team looking for that final piece that’ll push him over the edge. Let’s break this trade down from both sides:

All year long Polly’s been trying to “figure it out”, and he’s finally starting to mold his team into a potential winner in the next 2-3 years. With players such as Gerald Green, Jameer Nelson, and Martell Webster, the acquisition of Aldridge made complete sense to this writer. In a league where the top 8 teams are nearly unbeatable, Polly had to follow the footsteps of guys like Hoopz and Lakers, it’s called building your nucleus, and that’s exactly what Polly’s doing. On the back end of this deal, Polly was also able to acquire two very promising, young college studs. Daquan Cook may not sound like a household name, but when you play on a team with Greg Oden, you’re lucky to even be noticed. Cook has tremendous upside, and he’s already being compared to the Cavaliers Larry Hughes because of his defense and ability to make tough shots off the dribble. Cook projects to be a 1st round pick in the 2007 NBA draft, so we can expect to see some contributions as early as next season for Polly. As if Aldridge and Cook weren’t enough, Polly was also trade for the “Next Iguodala, L.R Mbah a Moute, a SF out of UCLA has nothing but ability. While comparisons are just that, Moute has shown flashes of greatness in his short career with the Bruins. With a 91 out of 100 rating on the expectations scale, expect to see Moute drafted in the top 10 of the 08’ draft.

Once again Nets “nets” a top player for his title run. Even though J-Rich has been out for most of the season, Nets will probably use this young high flyer later on in the year to give him the edge he needs. Based on some previous conversations with Nets owner, Chris, this writer believes that J-Rich will be used as a tool to acquire more talent.

Overall this trade seems exactly as it appears, one team trades for youth and the future, and one team trades for another weapon to stash. It’s almost impossible to say who’s won or lost in this one, but one thing’s very clear, Polly’s on the move….and Nets just became more dangerous.

My view: This trade is a wash IF Aldridge and Moute live up to the hype.

Lakerfan gets: Wilcox, Chris Duhon

Polly gets: Patrick O’Bryant, Darren Collison, and Vlad Radmanovich

These are a couple of minor trades. Wilcox and Duhon are both decent bench players who can help Lakerfan in his playoff run.  Most importantly, he got them for cheap.  Wilcox will get some decent rebounds and points.  Duhon will get some assists and help a little bit here and there.

I would say O’Bryant and Vlad are somewhat worthless.  O’Bryant has bust written all over him.  And Radman was sitting on FAs just a couple weeks ago.  But then there’s Collison.  Collison is a nice looking player with a chance to be a lottery pick.  I think that this makes it worth it for Polly.  Wilcox and Duhon are never going to be anything special but at least Collison has a chance to be.  Its these types of trades that a rebuilding team needs to make.

Both teams achieve their objective. Lakerfan gets a little better now and for the playoffs.  Polly gets younger and the chance to get something very nice.  I would give the edge to Polly although neither team really loses.

Lakerfan receives David Lee and Luther Head

Dribblin Receives: Baron Davis and Drew Gooden

Dribblin received a star player in Baron Davis.  As far as stars go though, they don’t get much worst than Baron.  Baron has a notable injury history, turns the ball over too often, and kills your percentages – all three of them.  In spite of his flaws, he does still put up very impressive assists, points, steals and 3s.  If you are willing to take the negatives with the positive then Baron is worth having if the price is right.

In this case though, I do not believe Baron was worth it.  David Lee is a young rebounding God that consistently will get double doubles and shoot a ridiculous FG%.  Luther Head is another good up and coming keeper that is currently the equivalent to Kyle Korver, but with more upside.  Head gets a ton of 3s and shoots them at a nice clip.  He is still young and could potentially become even more productive.  These are 2 young keepers that are already producing at high levels.

Dribblin may have been blinded by some of Baron’s gaudy numbers but he certainly paid the price for him.  Gooden is a good bench player but his minutes and production beyond scoring and rebounding are sub-par.  This trade will help Lakerfan in his playoff run.  Dribblin must be okay with Baron’s shortcomings but it just is not worth it in my opinion, and Gooden doesn’t make up the difference.  I give the advantage to Lakerfan in this trade.

Nets gets: Ricky Davis, Wally Szczerbiak, Lakers 3rd rounder

Lakers get: Erick Dampier, Trenton Hassell, Marcus Williams (prospect), and Nets 2nd rounder

In yet another trade, Nets further solidifies his depth with the addition of Ricky Davis and Wally Szczerbiak in an attempt to “out man” any one he should meet in the post season. On the other hand, Lakers continues his youth movement while adding a young college kid with upside and a pick upgrade.

Weeks after acquiring Dwayne Wade, Nets owner Chris has once again shown his will to win by acquiring Davis, a very solid swingman, and Wally, another player with the ability to score who just needs to overcome an injury plagued season. After putting up 20 ppg in 05-06, Wally has just been another body in Boston. Whether it’s been his ankle, knee, or leg, Szczerbiak has let the Cs and his fantasy owners down. Hopefully he will get his act together in time to help Nets in his quest. Ricky Davis, though, has been quite the opposite. When KG needed another man to step up and play big, Davis has been that guy. His ability to score, steal, and dish makes him very valuable to his fantasy owner. Nets also dealt Dampier, who’s having a surprisingly solid season. I, for one, was not a fan of Nets moving the solid big man. With starting injury plagued centers such as Jermaine O’Neal and Marcus Camby, Nets may need Dampier more then he knows.

Something tells me the Lakers GM wants all “injury prone” players as far away from his team as possible. After dealing away the much maligned Baron Davis, Lakers then takes out his rage on Wally Szczerbiak, who stated earlier, has been somewhat of a let down to those banking on his scoring ability. In another move to stack his core of promising “Diaper Dandies”, Lakers adds the very electric Marcus Williams from Arizona. Projected to be a very high 1st round pick, expect to see Lakers enjoying the fruit of Williams’ labor as early as next season. The loss of Ricky Davis could prove costly next season, as he’s a pretty decent fantasy contributor who’s still fairly young. Overall I think Lakers did what was best for his team at this time, so even the loss of Davis may not mean much should Marcus Williams live up to his potential.

Overall I think this trade suits both GMs involved, Lakers continues the rebuilding process, and Nets keeps stacking his lineup to thwart off any attempt of Pimps 3-peating. It should be fun to watch, as this writer thinks either Davis or Szczerbiak will be traded once again in the very near future.

My view: Nets for now, until/if Williams turns out to be anything special.

Pimps get: Rashard Lewis

Hipcats get: Chauncey Billups, 1st rounder

When I first saw this deal, I had no clue what Hipcats had in mind, but after further review, I now realize what he’s after. With Paul coming back, Pimps must’ve realized that Billups was expendable, which is most likely why he moved him for Shard. Then if you notice that Pimps is now down Nocioni, his 3 pt. shooting SF, Shard makes perfect sense for him. Billups, while up there in age, still has a lot left in the tank. Over the past 3 years, Billups has gone from a good PG to a great fantasy PG, neck and neck with the likes of Steve Nash. Let’s review how this trade went down.

Being the #1 team in the league, Pimps doesn’t have much left to do as far as roster moves are concerned, but as we’ve all learned in 06-07, players go down and we need someone to take their place. With Peja out for the season, and Nocioni going through some foot issue, Pimps move to acquire Shard was a good one. On a team with Paul, Cassell, and Alston, Billups was a very attractive PG option to move, and Pimps capitalized on his value. With a healthy Shard, and the rest of Pimps’ 3 pt. weapons, don’t expect to win that category anytime soon when you meet him.

Hipcats has had his share of ups and downs this season. With Bibby and Miller not playing up to par, Shard and Knight going down, the Cats have slipped from playoff contention. The trade for Billups/1st could be a very beneficial one next season. With Bibby, Billups, and Knight manning the PG slots, expect to see the Cats make a very strong push towards the top half of the league once again. As far as this season goes however, I see him playing spoiler to many a playoff hopeful. Depending on who Cats is able to net with that 1st rounder, this trade seems very even as it stands.

My view: Shard helps Pimps in his quest for a repeat, Billups helps Hipcats finish in a respectable manner.

Boozers get: Adam Morrison, Rudy Gay

Street Hoopz gets: Pau Gasol, Josh McRoberts, 3rd rounder

This trade’s a very interesting one for sure. With his playoff life on the line, Boozers takes one of his best big man assets, and turns him into two very promising young rookies. Rudy Gay and Adam Morrison should provide Boozers with an excellent 1-2 punch starting now and only getting better next year. Hoopz was able to add yet another big man alongside Carlos Boozer, and then added the Tarheel “Freak of Nature” in Josh McRoberts. Next year should be very interesting for these two teams on the rise. Let’s take a deeper look at this trade to see what’s what and who’s who.

After a rather disappointing 05-06 season, Street has done nothing but build via trade and his draftees. After watching players such as JR Smith and Barbosa evolve into special talents, Hoopz also was able to add a stud like Boozer along with Q-Rich and Troy Murphy via trade. With the addition of Pau Gasol to this lineup, expect a huge rise in the standings from this team once dubbed, “inactive”. Hoopz ability to add on McRoberts with his already flourishing supp list is a great example of what this GMs capable of doing; win via draft and trade. Expect to see Hoopz climb the standings as soon as next season, with playoffs very possible in the not-so-distant future.

While he’s still within reach of the 6th and final spot, Boozers move may very well be a sign that he’s starting fresh. The acquisitions of Morrison and Gay will not prove fruitful this season, but their sudden emergence may very well keep Boozer in the thick of the playoff race. After being thrust into the starting lineup, Rudy Gay has done everything in his power to become the next stud from Baltimore. With a 31 point outburst against the Pacers, Gay may very well be setting the table for a 2nd half run at the ROY. For Morrison, however, this year’s been a roller coaster ride. At times the #3 pick has shown flashes of brilliance, knocking down jumper after jumper, and then there are those off nights in front of the Bobcats faithful. It’s what to be expected of a rookie, and I have the utmost faith that his sophomore season will be nothing short of amazing.

My view: If Gay and Morrison become anything close to what they’re projected to be, this trade could definitely swing Boozers way, for now I think this trade’s in Hoopz’ favor, based on what is versus what could be.

Pimps gets: Steve Nash

dribblin gets: OJ Mayo

I guess we can view this trade as “out with the old, in with the new”, or something along those lines. Based on numerous moves and conversations with drummers’ owner, I think we see yet another team going after the youth of tomorrow in an attempt to contend later on down the line. While some may disagree with the whole “star for unproven” theory, this trade could prove very nice for both Pimps and drummers.

OJ Mayo has done nothing but live up to his comparison, D-Wade, and if he’s able to keep this game play up a, we could be looking at a top 3 pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. At first glance you may ask yourself, “What the fuck is dribblin doing?” Then you probably take a peek at Nash’s age (34), his recent touch of the injury bug, and the fact that dribblin already possesses Jack, Tinsley, Harris, and Baron Davis. In other words, Steve Nash became very easy for dribblin to deal once he realized playoffs were slipping away, and that OJ Mayo was sitting on his doorstep. I predict this is the first of many moves dribblin will make in order to re-tool his lineup for another shot in 08’.

After dealing away Billups for Shard, Pimps saw a golden opportunity to grab the best PG in the game, Steve Nash, and he didn’t hesitate in doing so. The Sweet Keeper Champ has done it again, in an attempt to counter Nets Wade acquisition, Pimps was able to trade the unproven for the 2-time league MVP. Chalk this one up as Pimps using his deep prospect list to his advantage, even before his youngins lace em up in the NBA.

My view: Since all my trades are viewed as even (says Nets….lol), let’s just say that Pimps sure used the word potential to win this trade hands down. If Mayo stops beating up refs, maybe dribblin will make this writer a believer. Good luck!

Nets get: Jeff Foster

Saints get: Wally Szczerbiak

I refuse to analyze ANY trade involving Jeff Foster!

My view: Nothing But Bandages just went from a wheelchair to crutches.

Lakerfan gets Murphy, Street gets Wilcox

This trade is very even.  I assume the managers made this trade to fit specific needs or wants.  The only notable difference in the two centers is that Murphy gets a few 3 pointers and Wilcox shoots a higher FG%.  Lakerfan, already loaded with high FG% bigs, gets some help in 3s, where he lags a bit compared to other top teams.  Street deals from a strength of threes and helps his FG%.  Street might feel that Wilcox has greater upside as well, although both players have limited ceilings.  Overall, this deals a wash.

Lakerfan gets Smush Parker, Boondock gets Blount

Much like the Murphy/Wilcox trade, this deal is also a lateral move for both teams.  Lakerfan continues to improve his guard weaknesses while Boondock also addresses his lack of quality big men.  This deal seems like minor posturing in preparation for the playoffs.  Both teams should be there.  Once again, this minor deal is a wash.

Lakerfan gets Jameer Nelson, Polly gets Stephen Jackson

Nelson has struggled a bit this year relative to the high expectations put on him coming into the season.  And Stephen Jackson has been dynamite in GS since the big GS/IND trade.  However, Nelson has more long term value.  Nelson is 4 years younger, and while he has struggled a bit, he has the upside to be an all-star. Jackson could potentially get squeezed out a bit of a crowded GS team where minutes are scarce.  Jackson’s value in this year alone has been pretty volatile with limited minutes at times in Indiana.

Lakerfan must agree that Nelson is the more valuable keeper because otherwise this trade would make no sense.  Lakerfan is approaching playoff time and is certainly looking for the most production possible.  Right now Jackson is the more productive player though and the acquisition of Nelson is based on upside.  You would expect it to be the other way around, with the young rebuilding team taking on the young potential.

I have to give the edge to Lakerfan here.  While it could hurt his playoff chances, it should help long term.  I think this trade is a mistake for Polly.  He must be basing it on the assumption that Nelson will not improve much, but I disagree.  The only advantage Jackson has is his greater short term production which does not help Polly since he is out of the playoffs.  It’s a case of buy low, sell high for Lakerfan.  Perhaps he should play the stockmarket.

Lakerfan gets Antawn Jamison/Grant Hill, Dribblin gets David Lee/Luther Head

This is the type of trade we have come to expect when one team is vying for a championship while the other is looking to the future.  Lakerfan gets short-term improvements while Dribblin gets youth and long-term benefits.

Jamison is one of the better players in the league with his scoring, rebounding, and 3-pointers.  Yahoo says that he is a top 20 player this year based on his average stats. Grant Hill, when healthy, is still a good scorer and shoots at a surprisingly high FG%.  Unfortunately, Hill is basically limited to his scoring these days and does not provide much more. Hill is on his last legs and Jamison is getting up there in age as well.

David Lee is one of the best rebounders in the league and he is a percentage God.  He is a threat to get a double double on a nightly basis.  Luther Head is a 3 point specialist who is a God when it comes to 3point%.  Best of all for Dribblin, these guys are both very young and should only get better as time goes on.

Between Lee’s rebounding and Head’s 3 pointers the only significant gain for Lakerfan is in scoring while Dribblin gains youth and in the percentages. Lakerfan was surely motivated to do this so that he could strengthen himself for the playoffs.  Lee's injury could be another month or so and Lakerfan can not afford this injury for the playoffs.  He certainly paid the price though to rid himself of an injury. This trade is beneficial for Lakerfan for the remainder of the season but come next year Dribblin wins big in this deal.

Pimps gets: Yao Ming

Hunks gets: Chris Paul, 3rd rounder (08), 3rd rounder (09)

In another blockbuster move, Pimps sets himself up for a repeat in 07’. While Chris Paul is definitely an all-star PG, Yao Ming is back, and has returned to the throne as the NBA’s #1 center hands down.

Just when you thought last year’s champ was done making moves, he lights up the trading stage with the acquisition of Yao Ming, fresh off a broken leg, but back in the top slot. This move all but guarantees Pimps will win any big man battle he should face in the post season. With up and coming big man Al Jefferson, Zadrunas Ilgauskas, and newly acquired Ming, look for Pimps to wreak havoc in the “big man categories.”

Just when most people had Hunks labeled a dead squad, he up and trades for one of the NBA’s premier PGs in Chris Paul. 2006-07 hasn’t been as amazing as his rookie campaign due to injuries, but Paul is definitely the kind of guy any rebuilding team can be happy to call their own. With Paul in his corner, look for the Hunks from Hixville to make a lot of noise in 2007-08.

My view: Don’t tell Pimps, but this trade could’ve just crowned him b2b Sweet Keeper Champs!

Drummers gets: Renaldo Balkman

Polly gets: Drew Gooden

So I’m having a conversation with the owner of Polly one night, and along comes this trade offer, “Gooden for Balkman.” I had no idea what he was asking me, I mean even as the #1 supporter of Balkman, I never thought anyone would deal for him, not in this fashion. That’s not to say Gooden’s a stud, but the guy dealing him is in the heat of a playoff race, and it just didn’t make much sense….at first!

Dribblin Drummers has been going through some rough patches this season, and kind of like the N.Y Knicks, Dribblin thought “Balk” could remedy his problem. About 3 weeks ago the Knicks lost their #1 scorer in Jamal Crawford; they then lost white boy phenom David Lee to an ankle injury, so it almost made sense that Balkman was in line for some big time minutes. On the same token, Gooden has been a sound PF throughout the season; he just doesn’t provide much more then a double-double nightly, while Balkman offers the same only with steals and blocks.

Polly, on the other hand, has been adding, trading for, and drafting tomorrow’s young studs. By acquiring Gooden, he’s added an absolute starter at PF with solid stats. Polly’s been rounding out his team with rookies, sophomores, and middle aged veterans from time to time, expect this move to help him further his cause as soon as next season.

My view: Polly wins this trade until Balkman becomes a starter and contributes steadily.

Pimps gets: Tayshaun Prince, Paul Millsap, 3rd rounder

Pearly gets: Andres Nocioni, Peja Stojakovich, Lance Stephenson (prospect)

One thing no title contender can stand is hurt players wasting space. In another intelligent move, Pimps pawned off his injured players for Prince, a player equal to those he moved, and Millsap, a young PF who’s been compared to the great Karl Malone.

In another move to help him win it all, Pimps deals away his “Red X’s” to Pearly, a team full of promise and full of injuries. It was a match made in heaven. He was able to add Tayshaun Prince, a guy who doesn’t do anything great but doesn’t do anything bad either. Prince is just one of those players you don’t mind having, and you don’t look to trade away either because of what he can do. Millsap had more value when Boozer went down, but I’m sure Pimps will use him to acquire another starter.

As I stated earlier, Pearly’s team has the potential to make the playoffs in the coming years, this year however, has been full of injuries, losing, and the loss of Yao Ming….to Hunks. Being able to add Peja and Nocioni, Pearly can sit back and watch these two solid players come back and play well next season. Peja’s a potential stud with an injury plagued past, but his overall ability could bode well for a team in Pearly’s position. Nocioni is another 3-point stud who’s suffered from a nagging arch injury all season. When starting, Nocioni is easily a top scoring threat from anywhere on the court, and he possesses the ability to rebound, which makes him a 3-cat player. The addition of Stephenson gives Pearly another prospect to watch grow, since his hopes of the postseason probably won’t come about for another 1-2 seasons.

My view: Because we don’t know what Millsap’s capable of just yet, Pearly wins this trade for now and later.

LakerFAN gets:
Jason Williams

Dallas gets:
Chris Duhon
3rd rounder(mine)

This trade makes sense for both parties. Duhon is young and has a chance to be a decent fantasy option in the future and a pick is always nice.  Williams on the other hand is already pretty good but he is aging.  Williams will help Lakerfan for the playoffs.  In terms of pure value though, I think Williams is probably worth more than Duhon and a 3rd so I’ll say Lakerfan wins here.

LakerFAN gets:
Stevie Franchise

Hakim Warrick

Lakers get:
Troy Murphy
Steve Blake
3rd rounder(drummers)

Lakerfan makes a deal to try and help his chances in the playoffs.  Lakers continues in his effort to build from the ground up.  Murphy and Blake are nothing special but they can be decent players at times and a 3rd rounder is always good for a young team.  Lakerfan gets a past-his-prime Steve Francis and a solid young scorer with upside in Hakim Warrick.  I think Lakers wins this trade because Francis is basically useless at this point, especially for a rebuilding team like Lakers so its almost like Warrick for three decent assets.  Warrick has shown he can score but he hasn’t shown much else.  Without being so nitpicky though, this trades a wash.

LakerFAN gets:

Jamal Tinsley
Jarret Jack
Gerald Henderson, G, Duke

drummers get:

Mo Williams
Anthony Johnson
Billy Walker, F, K-State

Drummers wins this deal pretty easily.  Tinsley can not be relied on in the long-term, he is too injury prone and inconsistent.  I think that Jarrett Jack is just one of those guys who is producing right now because of his situation; he could easily be getting 15 minutes per game on another team.  Gerald Henderson has very little value, he is not a star and he is not projected to go particularly high in the draft when he enters.  Mo Williams has shown he can put up star type numbers although I question whether or not he is also a product of a nice situation.  Anthony Johnson is nothing.  Billy Walker is a quality prospect, if he can fully recover from his knee injury he has Vince Carter athleticism and will be a lottery pick.  Lakerfan helps himself now because two players that are producing right now are better than one but it hurts significantly in the long-term.  Good deal for Dribblin.

Lakerfan gets Aldridge/Sefolosha Polly gets Jack Curry

Great trade for Lakerfan.  Curry, as has been discussed at length, is not a very good fantasy player.  He only produces well in points, FTM, FG%, rebs while hurting FT%, TOs and every other category.  Jarrett Jack is discussed in the previous analysis and has a good chance to fizzle out in my opinion.  Lakerfan receives Aldridge who, in limited time this season, has shown that he can be a fantasy force.  Aldridge is what you want out of a big man.  He shoots at a high FG%, scores, rebounds, and blocks shots.  That’s how he is right now, and hes doing great recently with more minutes.  He should also continue to improve.  Aldridge has a chance to be a fantasy star while Jack and Curry are mediocre.
