After the 2002-03 dominance, Hammer moved to a more competitive C league. Hammer replaced lifetime LF Tony Troccia with former opponent Dave Waage, and headed into the season otherwise intact. Soon enough, a rash of injuries and other issues caused Hammer to lose as many as 9 of their starting players by midseason (inclulding SS Clark-Rod Chaffin). Several newcomers stepped in to fill the cracks, notably IF Steve Reinacher, OF Charlie Glass, RF Kevin Jones and the enigmatic Chizzle Ellsworth. However, opponents were much less charitable and Hammer stumbled to 3-13 record.
