Rochester in New York State is the second place that I have lived in the United States.
Compared to Teaneck, NJ, here is much more country side.
In Teaneck, even by walk, you can reach many places. However, in Rochester, bus is a must to go shopping or buy food.
Before I had a car, I had to take a bus or ask my friends to give a ride to me to go out.
In Rochester, there are three famous schools:
UOR is popular for MBA programs (so far that I know, as most of my friends in UOR is studying its MBA program.
Eastman School of Music is one of the top music schools in the United States. Many people from all around the world come here to learn their music there.
RIT is the one that I am studying now. The most famous major is Photography. Other popular programs are Information Technology(IT), Engineering, business majors and some others majors.

Why choose RIT? Well, it has scholarship and financial aids offered to all students (including to international students, where some other schools do not offer, like FDU). Also, it has co-op requirements which help students to experience working while studying. (Honestly, and actually, finding co-op is your own business and it is tough for internatinoal students to find co-op in the US as many companies only employ US citizens and permenant residents only.)
OK, let's talk about what's around RIT. First thing is, hahaha, of course food. Well, here is not bad as there are a few asian markets which provide asian food and snacks. There are one Chinese market and three other Korean-Japanese markets.
