Random thoughts for 09/27/2002
Basically, I've had  a fairly boring week so far, but it's been depressing nonetheless. Because I'm taking classes at Chemeketa Community College, I get the Statesman Journal and the Oregonian for free, as well as the newspapers for Newburg, Woodburn, Gervais, Canby, etc,......So now I'm depressed because everytime I check onto my student account, I get these headlines screaming at me: ANTHRAX SCARE IN THE CAPITAL! BUSH PLAN FOR FOREST THINNING BURNS TO THE GROUND! PLAN FOR UN/US COOPERATION SCREECHES TO A HALT! and on and on and on, ALL WEEK! On top of this, I have just been asked to interim coach the Woodburn Barracuda swim team until I leave for the Navy in March, or they hire a new coach, one of the two. Now, I can't get home until four o'clock most days because of school, and can't get home until five on Thursday. This means that, with swim team starting at four o'clock, I miss almost the first half hour of it. This also means that I have to watch the Woodburn Water Polo teams, both boys and girls, practice, and, to be perfectly honest, they suck. The coach is inexperienced, has no discipline, and no desire for the sport. The players on the other hand, love to play almost as much as they love goofing off, talking, and beating each other up to boost the egos that get damaged during the games. Not a good combination. So bad a combo in fact that it's almost physically painful to watch them practice. But, because I will be coaching the club swimmers, and the High School water polo team practices at the same time as we do, I don't have a choice. I had meant this entry to be more of a political nature, but it didn't work out. I should think about starting two journals, a personal one, and a political one. I'll have to look into it.
