MY FIRST POEM

He offered all that he had
for this country he adored
at times he was lonely and sad
as he had been many times before

he was trained and ready to fight
for the loved ones he'd left at home
he knew what he was doing was right
and that his end may soon come

but he knew that every one was counting on
soldiers like him to do whats right
and he would do it no matter how long
because he was trained to fight

some day he will be back home again
to that very special some one
from the far away places he'd been
and the war was finially won

                     By Bill Miller
Untitled

He served in the Army many years ago
and he made many real close friends
he thinks of those times every day or so
when he was training for this country to defend

things haven't always gone just right
since he was discharged and settled down
his Army friends make things seem bright
when they all come into town

they're all a little older now
but they don't seem to care
they'll all keep in touch some how
because of the closeness they shared

they talk about their Army days
and things that happened after
they know deep down some how it pays
that friendship will always matter

The Accent

He was poor and from the country
from way down south he came.
When he decided to join the Army
he thought every one was the same

After basic training he went to New Jersey
he was assigned to a Nike Site
it wasn't long till he would see
people were different as day and night

His northern friends made fun sometimes
of a southerners accent
if they thought they would find
he learned it from his parents

But when it was time to man the radar
things were different you see
it seemed they all just came from afar
and suddenly it was just we

He learned to take the jokes in stride
when the radar was shut down
not like at first when he wanted to hide
he knew now they were just fooling around

Now his Army days are over
he and his friends are far apart
but he'll remember them for ever
an accent doesn't effect the heart

To Daddy Moe:

A Hero, and a best friend
I'll be forever thankful for you!
You are the bravest of souls
You are the strongest of hearts
You are the light in the dark
When a storm rises, you will be a
Hero who saves the day with your
Words of wisdom
A smile comes across your face
When you hear your children laugh
One who married the greatest woman
Someone who has provided through the years
And years to come.
When tears fall from my eyes
You are my knight in armor who dries my tears
My light shining bright
Shining through your eyes
You are the bravest of souls
Because of where duty calls you to go
You are the strongest of hearts
Because we are in your heart
Even though we are apart
A hero, and a best friend
I'll be forever thankful for you!
Because you are SFC Louis Walston, my Daddy Moe!

This Soldier

Giving up his life, and relinquishing his own,
Leaving his family, and missing his home;
This soldier leaves a place he's always known.

He keeps on going without any slack,
Day after day without ever looking back,
This soldier stays right on track.

He's not fighting for money or for land,
But for the safety of his fellow man,
This soldier keeps up his brave stand.

We comment from afar on what we see,
From politicians, papers, and news on T.V.
This soldier faces the true reality.

So calmly do we wait here, all of us,
Thinking all the things that we know we can't discuss,
This soldier has our complete and total trust.

One day he'll be home amongst the joyous crowd,
And people will say to the soldier way out loud,
"Come and rest, my brave son, you have made your country proud."

A MOTHERS POEM

Just yesterday, I held you secure in my arms,
Protecting you from all the worlds harms.

You skinned your knee, chipped your tooth,
Even had a stitch or two.
I dried your tears, and patched your wounds,
I was taking care of you.

Somewhere along the passageway amid then and now,
You took a solemn oath and uttered the soldiers vow.

With burning tears I kept quietly hidden inside,
You marched off to serve with a powerful stride.

Then I stood back in unexpected awe,
As I proudly grasped what I now saw

And I knew, too, that all the world would see,
That it was now my soldier who protected me.

God Bless You All Come Home Soon and Safely,

           Before You Go

Dear child, I'm proud to see you go,
Although your leaving hurts me so
My mother's heart is full of pride
Even though a million teardrops I've cried

As you go forth answering your country's call,
Your uniform makes you look so tall.
I'm not alone in the way I feel,
Thousands of mothers are facing the same ordeal.

Before you go please hold me tight
I'll pray for you both day and night
Give me a smile as you walk away.
Stay safe and come back to me someday.

Dear God

This prayer that I say tonight
Is for my spouse who must fight
for you see, he is away from me
Keeping his country safe and free
This is the one that I love
And so I ask you Lord above
Please keep him safe while under way
and bring him home to me someday
While he is gone, please hear my prayer
And let him know I will be there
Waiting for him upon the pier
Hoping and praying with some fear
This prayer is not for him alone
But for all military far from home
I ask you to keep them safe and sound
On their way to where their bound
We love these men (and women) that are
asked to fight
So, keep them safe for us tonight.
