"Communities in Newfoundland and   Labrador"
Introduction
This is a webquest designed so that students can successfully determine the major regions within the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.  Each group will consist of seven members.
Task:
The students will be able to do a small research project on Newfoundland and Labrador. They will be able to identify the major communities and regions within the province. For each community, one group member will research their region's major industries, places of interest, population, and local history. Which of these communities are considered to be cities, towns, or villages? You will have to identify these locations of a map as well. You must identify what the three cities in Newfoundland are.
Procedure/Resources:
Each person will research a community. They will be asked to visit the site for these seven communities in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The city of St. John's is usually a good starting point for your search. Visit the site: www.city.st-johns.nf.ca to find all of the necessary information.  Next, visit the site for Mount Pearl at www.mtpearl.nf.ca

The final product will be a 8-10 minute oral group presentation, plus a written two to three page outlining the details of each community. The group must also display a map of Newfoundland and Labrador, for use during the oral presentation and the written assignment.
Evaluation:
The teacher will following the following grading scheme for the final group mark:

               -  Map                          4 points
               -  Research                  8 points
               -  Oral Presentation     4 points
               -  Written Paper           4 points

Conclusion:
In conclusion, this webquests has given student a familiarity with the various communities in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.  This was a project designed for combining cooperative learning as well as individulaized learning in an effective manner.
